Regular �meeting �of� the Board of Public Safety was held Monday,
August 3I, 1936, at 9:00 A. M. All members v�ere present.
Minutes of previous meeting were read and approved.
Requisitions in the Fire Department numbers 03482 to 03488,
inelusive , and in the Police Department numbers 136 to 145, inolusive,
were approved. Claims in the amount of �1,087 .99 , from the folloti�in�
suppliers, were approved and ordered paid, also payroll in the Poliee
Department amounting to �79.20.

FIRE DEPARTMENT - Chief Freeh present:
Matters pertaining to the operation of the Fire Department tiRere
discussed with the Chief.
The Chief requested the privilege of purchasing two tires for
No. 3 Hose House engine and also tv�o hundred feet of 1Q in. booster
hose, whiah were approved by the Board.
Application for fireman vaas received from Alex Ma�ewski and ordered
placed on file.
POLICE DEPARTN�NT - Chief Lane present:
A petition signed by a large number of residents in the vicinity
of Calvert and 1Vliami Streets was presented to the Board, requesting
that a stop light be installed at the corner of Miami and Calver�
Streets, �thich is a through street from South .Bend to Mishawaka. This
petition �vas referred for investigation and recommendation to 1�1ir. Qualls
of the Electrical Department and Mr. �iller of the Traffic Bureau.
A petition, signed by ten residents on East �enger Street in the
700 block, was presented to the Board, requesting that the employees of
the South Bend Bait Company who park their cars in that block be
requested to park them upon the property of the South Bend Bait Company
�vhere it is claimed ample space is provided. The matter was referred
to the ChieP of Police Por investigation and report.
A petition, signed by four residents on North Johnson Street, was
presented to the Board, requesting that the employees of the 0'Brien
Varnish Company be prohibited from parking in Pront of their residences.
The matter was referred to the Chief of Police for investigation and
report.
Continuation aertificate on bond of special poli.ce officer V`Jard 0.
Harte was approved by the Board.
Surety bonds in favor of Gustave Schuttrow and Fred Miller,
re�ular police officers, in the United States Fidelity and Guaranty Co.
were approved.
�r. Humberger, who Formerly operated a private taxi cab stand at
the northvrest aorner of hiichigan Street and Colfax Avenue, but whb on
account of illness relinquished this stand, appeared before the Board
and requested the privilege of re-establishing this stand beginning
September 15th. Due to the fact that at this station formerly three
private taxi cab stands vrere operated in the names of Mr. Humberger,
Nr. Hartman and b2r. �dolfe, the Board decided to give Mr. Humberger
the privilege of occupying stand at this point. The matter �ras
referred to the Chief of Police.
. ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT - Mr. Q,ualls present:
A communication was received from the I�ayor recommending that

ppointed to fill �the vaaancy in the �.Iarm Station
ereated by� the transfer of Frank Roytek to the Fire Depar�ment.
The Board appointed Mr. Hess, to take effect September lst.
VPEIGFiTS 8c MEASURES DEPARTMENT - Mr. Burns present:
Mr. Burns reported the activities of his department, showing
194 inspections for the past week, which report is on file in the
office oP the Board of Public Safety. �
