Regular meeting of the Board of �ublic Safety was held on

Requisitions in the Police �7epartment nur.2bers 70 �0 90 and in
the Fire Department 03456 to 03463, inclusive, �rere approved. Claims
in the amount of �;;�746.88, from the follor�ing suppliers, ��rere approved
and ordered paid, also payroll of the various departments amounting
to `�17 ,167.23.

to report to Dr. R. L. Sensenich, Pension Physician of the rire

�nton Sroda - recomrnended f or pension on account of general
physical condition and high blood pressure.
Alfred Lentz - recommended for pension on account of high blood
pressure and diabetes.
Tohn Borko��slti - recorrunendation v�ithheld as there seemed to be
nothing of a serious nature in his physical condition, althou�h he has
lost sixteen pounds during the last year and noyr only tvei;hs 114 pounds.
nfter considering this report, the Board upon motion re;ularly
seconded and carried decided to prefer charges a�ainst �irem�n Sroda
and Lentz to shotia cause tivhy they should not be placed upon the pension
list of the Fire Department. Tne City �ttorney i7as instructed to
dra�t up such char�es. Dr. Sensenich a�reed to testify to the faet
that their physical condition is such that they are incapacitated for
useful service as firerien.
The decision in the case of John Borkovrski ti�as eaithhela for
further investi�ation. �:
In the case of �d�vard Tohulka, crho f�iled to respond to the call
of the Board to appear at this meeting, the Clerk t7as instructed to
Slrite him to appear before the Board at its meetinG on August 3rd and
sho�� cause for not appearing in accordance tivitn its instruction.
Resignations from the Fire Department ti7ere received frorm Fireman
nugust 's'�alinski , Captain rienry Czajko�rski and Captain i'�. C. Bernhardt
and upon re�ular motion, seconded and carried, they tisrere accepted
. effective ku�ust lst , 1936. It �ras decided to retain each on the
payroll until au�ust 15th, tne last tt�o �reeks to be considered their
vacation for the .year.

Snellenberger was presented to the Board and ordered placed on file.

past saeek.

�:=r. Burns reported the activities of his de�art�;�ent for the past
�eeY, shoS�ing 257 inspections to have been made. The report is on
file in the office of the Board of rublic Safety.
T�;`s. Burns v�ras requested at his convenience to check all Taxi
Cabs as to governor and meter. He r�as given assurance of cooperation
by the Police Department.

Officer Ernest H. �iiller, :�ngineer in �he Accident Frevention �
Bureau, presented a plan for traffic control. at e'Testern Avenue and
ti'�alnut Streets �rhich ti�as referred to ��ir. C�ualls of the Electrical
Uepartmen� f or investigation and recommendation.
T�Totion was made, seconded and regularly carried that the five
police officers �vho vlere recommended for Pension by Dr. Pauszek on
account of their present physical condition be ordered to, report to
Pension Physician Dr. R. L. Sensenich for further check. The clerk
was ordered to reouest the officers to report accordingly. The
follo�ving letter vras directed .to 4fficers Sam I�oczorov�ski, rrank
yiendov.ski , Valentine Delinski , Frank �erger and J. C. Bloom.
"The Board after further discussing your examination by the
Police Doctor, Dr. .Pauszek, has decided that they shall instruct you
to report to Dr. R. L. Sensenich, J.P�I.S. Building, for a further check
as to your physical condition and your fitness to continue on the
Police Force of the City of South Bend. You �iill please, therefore ,
report to vr. Sensenieh at your convenience betv�reen no�1 and �ugust lst
for examination, so that report may be had for the Board meetin� on
P�:Ionday, �ugust 3rd." � �
The Chief of Police reconunended , the purchase by the City o�' 25
Iron Clativs f or use as eauipment , in the Police Department at a cost of
w6.00 each. The Board approved the ;purchase �•rith the understanding
that officers be charged �iith them as equipment , same as �uns and
other equipment.
The Bendix Products Corporation requested that the follo�aing men
be deputized as special police ofPicers: Arthur Ferm, �rnest Pr:ahan,
�inkor nnderson, 1�. H. Bode and T�n. D. Shaffer. This t�as authorized
upon posting of regular surety bond.
