The matter ti�as fully discussea and- i�'.vras de�ided to take it under advisement for a period of one �veek to give the members of the Board an oppor- tunity to investigate various an�les before makin� a decision. In the matter of physical examination of police ofPicers , in line vrith letter received from the �Iayor to have certain officers examined by the �olice Sur�eon to determine their fitness to continue as officers or to take advantage of their privileges under the pension fund, the result of this examination shoi�ed as folloc�s: Samuel hoczorovrski - not recommended on t�ccount of enlarged ri�ht hernia and very deaf. Frank '�Jendotivski - poor vision, requires glasses to see 20-30. Ri�ht hernia enlar�ed. Ri�ht in�uinal ring enl.ar�ed. . Valentine llelinski - diabetes. �nlargea righ� in�uinal ring. Frank rerger - ri�ht en�arged inguinal llernia. ��tears a truss . J. C. Bloorn - high blood pressure. Lnlarged right inguinal ring. Fred DeLee - no recommendation. �pplicant has a repaired hernia sho�ring scars. l�iehael Rzepka - no recomrnendation. Good physical condition excepting age and over�veight. Axel B. Tholander - no recor��endation. �'hysical condition �ood excepting age and old gall bladder scar that may develop hernia. ��dilliam J. T:iei:iahon - recoi:�mended for continued service. Af ter fully considering this report, the Boarc� gave instructions to notify the first five naentioned to report at the next meetin� of the Board to discuss the question of takin� advanta�e of pension privileges rather than continuing the services for the City. The f'olloti�.in� letter �:as vrritten to each of the five policemen: � "The result of your exariination by the Police Surgeon recently develops the fact that your physical condition is not sucn tl�at you can give the City the best possible service as an o�'ficer. This matter �1as carefully discussed by the Board at its last rneeting and it sxias decided at that ti�e that you be requested to appear bef'ore the Bonrd��hetherdor�not1you�tservices�shoulPd�be�r the purpose oP determin g . V� continued as an officer or if it crould be best for you to take advantage of your pension privileges to v�hich you are entitled. " The Chief reported that the Gill-Vorn Chevrolet Company had indioated a disposition to supply the ��ccident Prevention Bureau ��ith two Chevrolet automobiles for the exclusive use of that department and requested authority frorl the Board to accept them. xfter a full discussion of the matter, the ��ayor bein� favorable to the arrangement, it tiras agreed to accept this contribution and the Chief' o� Police vras authorized to direct the folloivin� letter to the Gill-Vorn Chevrolet Company: "I am informed �+ur. Burns, Director of our Traffic Bureau has conferred tivith you relative to Safety cars for the Bureau. , The Traffic Buresu has been inau�urated as a result of an appropriation fro� the �nerican �utomobile Association to ths International Association of Chiefs of Police for street and hi ghti�ay saf e ty. The �ersonnel of this Bureau has been selected and trained by officials of the I.A.C.P. and �e are v�ell equipped with educational and investigation material. Tv�o Safety cars monogrammed and equipped ��ith loud speakers �aould bring our Bureau up to modern standards of equipment. This Bureau is a permanent adjunct of the Police Department and as such is e:�pected to reduce to a ninimwn the frequenc;� and intensity of automobile accidents in this City. Should your Company support our Safety Pro�ramrne by furnish- ing t��o cars or' type mentioned, itte feel a great i�petus v�ould be given to the Bureau and an outstanding civic service rendered this community. A communication from Ernest fi. i�:iiller, dated July llth, �1as presented to the 3oard and each member furnished a copy, outlining suggestions as to traffic control in the City, ti=rhich report is on file in the office of the Board of rublic Saf'ety. FIRE Dr�PARTT,7ENT - Chief Freeh present: The Chief, upon instructions fro�n the i�:ayor, sub�itted seven names of inembers of the Fire Department ��ho are eligible to nension �rho are to be examined by tne City Surgeon as to their physical c��di �ion for performing the duties of firemen. ELECTRICAL DEP�RTl,tIENT - �ir. �,ualls present: �.Tr. �ualls reported in reference to the investi�atiori made regarding flasher at Iron�rood Drive �nd TucKinley Avenue and stateci that the installation of this flasher �aould cost �44.00 and the maintenance a�proximately �30.00 per year. There bein� sufficient funds in the appropriation to eover this, it vras regularly moved, seconded and earried that this installation be made at once. I�d�r.
