Regul.ar meeting of the Board o�' Public Safety was held on �
I�donday, June 15, 1936, at 9:00 A. M. A11 members �ere present.
�Iinutes of t�e previous meeting �rere read and approved.
Requisitions in the Police Department numbers 09136 to 09148,
inclusive, and No. 1, also in the Fire llepaxtment numbers 03410 to
03415, inclusive, were approved.
Claims in the various departments in the amount of �522.36,
from the follo�ing suppliers, v�ere approved and ordered paid.

FIRE DEPARTMEN2 - Chief Freeh present:
The ChieP requested the privilege of purchasing at this time
1000 ft. of fire hose for the Fire llepartment and, there being
sufficient appropriation, he v�as authorized to make the purchase.
The Fire Chief submitted estimated cost of repairs to chemical
vrhieh gaould put the apparatus in useable eondition. The estimated
eost being �61.00. There being sufficient funds in the appropriation
for this work, he v�as authorized to have the repairs made.
EZECTRICAI� DEPARTI�NT - �+Ir. Qualls present:
Mr. ualls requested privilege to purchase one arc welder as
addition 1 equipment in the �lectrical Departnent at a cost of �29.50.
There b ing sufficient appropriation to cover this item, he �aas
author ed to make the purehase.
The question of hazard to linemen ��as fully discussed �rith
PJlr. Qualls and, due to extreme dangers, �r. Qualls vras authorized to
purchase f'our volt metera, giving the men an opportunity to test
lines ti^ith vrhich they come in contact. The e�ense to be approx-
imately �a10.00 each.
Mr. Qualls reported to the Board tY�at traffic signal at south-
east corner of Jefferson and ��iehigan Strests ��as hit by a truek
belonging to the Liberty Highway Company of Akron, Ohio and driven
becretar �was�instructedntodcollectithehamo�tnfrom the?abovehe

POLICE DEPARTP�riENT - Chief Lane present:
b2atters particularly pertaining to the Police Department were
discussed �vith the Chief and he ��as instructed to prepare his budget
for the coming year and include all items of equipment tivhich he felt
were necessary for the suecessful operation oP the department.
Surety bond in the IInited States Fidelity �. Guaranty Company in
favor of Ernest H. ��iller, recently appointed police officer, was
approved by the Board.
Communication from ki. E. Bolt, General Chairman of South Bend
Civic Safety Council., with reference to recommendations that cross
walks, safety zones asd ossibleesiCommun'�icationewasrorderedlplacedn
the streets as soon P
on file.
In the matter of street marking P�hich is being conducted under
the supervision of the Street Department, the Board authorized the,
purchase of one wheel�,and one hand marker from the 1'M�unicipal Supply
Company at a cost of �p200.00. �yrau�atosa,�aV�isconsin�and�the Lev�is

A general diseussion of the duties of the City Sealer was had
and the m�tter of his requirements for the successful conduct of his
department was diseussed and he was instructed to appear before the
Board at each meeting on Nlonday with a report o� the activities of
the department for the past v�eek.
