Regular meeting of the Board of Public SaPety was held on �ti
Monday, June 8, 1936, at 10: 00 g. Pd. All members were present.
Minutes of previous meeting were read and approved.
Requisitions in the Police Department numbers 09118 to 09135
and in the Fire Department numbers 03405 to 03409 were approved.
Claims, from the follovring suppliers, in the amount of �928.80 were
approved and ordered paid, also payroll of the various departments
for the f irst half of June in the amount of :�17 ,003.78.

FIRE DEPARTMENT - Chief Freeh present:
The Chief again brought up the question of having the chemical
repaired, as it is beooming more unsaPe continually, and the Board
requested him to secure estimates, of the cost of repair and to report
at the next regular meeting.
ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT - Mr. Qualls present:
Mr. �,ualls submitted report of fire alarms registered during the
month of l��ay and a comparison oP the same activities for the same month
during the last ten years. This report is on file in the office o#' the
Board of Public Safety. •
Mr. Qualls submitted a report of damage caused by an automobile
collision at the intersection of ti"�estern Avenue and �Yalnut Street
caused by a car driven by Mr. Crane, Deputy State Fire b2arshal, who
disregarded the red light. The cost of repair amounted to �20.05. The
Secretary was instrueted to collect this amount from the Fire 14�arshal.
POLICE DEPARTMENT - Chief Lane present:
1'he Chief submitted monthly report of the activities of the Police
Department for the month of �sy, which report is on file in the office
of the Board of Public Safety.
A report of the operations of the police radio for the month of
P�ay, whieh was compiled by Chief Radio Operator, �ras �submitted by the
Chief of Police and placed on file.
The matter of washing cars and permitting the �aater to drain into
alley at 305 Y�est Colfax Avenue was reported upon by the Chief, who
stated that Mr. Coffman had agreed to discontinue �ashing cars at the
above �ddress until the capacity of his sewer has been increased.
Communication �tas received from the �'dard Baking Company requesting
that the Board deputize two additional special police officers for duty
in their er�ploy in the persons of Alfred Fiehrman and Isaac Kryder.
These commissions were approved and regular bonds were received in
favor of the applicants.
A request was made by Ray M. Smith oP the Electrical Departinent
for special police officers commission, which the Board did not
consider favorably and requested the Secretary to inform �r. Smith
that a letter from the �lectrieal Superintendent would probably ansv�er
the purpose equally as well.
Surety bonds and continuation certificates in favor of the following

police officers were approved by the Board and placed on file:
Arden M. Kline, B��ichael Gresezyk, John Stasinski , Robert Watt,
Paul NZcCarroll and �rnest F. Busch.
�pplication for position on the Police Department was received
from Ernest Ii. Miller. Physieal examination by the Police Surgeon
shovved a favorable report and he recommended him f or duty on the
department. After carefully analyzing the applieation and the Board
finding that b'Ir. r�iller's �reight vras less than they required in the
application, namely; 160 lbs. , he v�eighing t�velve pounds less than
this, the Board upon regular motion made by Btlrr. Anderson, seconded
by &Zr. ��oodrvard and carried decided to waive the weight requirement
in this partieular case, due to the speeific duties to which this
officer would be assigned, his duties being of an engineering nature
in .connection �rith a recently organized Acaident Prevention Bureau.
��r. Miller was appointed to duty eff ective J'une 8th, subject to
re�;ular requirement of six months probation and assi�nment by the
Chief oP Police.
The matter of street marker ti�as brought up and the Secretary
submitted a proposition from the G. ��. Spiess Equipment Company
together with literature in �rhich the City was oPPered a marker at
a price of :�390.00 delivered. Instructions were given to
investigate the matter further and to secure prices from other
manufacturers of like equipment to be submitted to the Board at a
later meeting. Also that the Secretary investigate the aecount to
which such a purchase can properly be charged without endangering
budget limitations.

SPECIAL I�EETING June 10. 1936
Special meeting of the Board of Public Safety vr�as held on
�lednesday, June 10, 1936, at 3 P. M. �11 members rvere present.
The purpose oP the meeting vaas to issue instructions to the
Clerk of the Board of Public SaPety to issue aYfidavits in favor
of Charles J. Burns f'or salary from January lst to June 15th, 1936,
and to continue ldr. Burns on the regular payroll of the Department
oP �r�eights & ��easures on the basis of the salary established by
the budget.
