Gentlemen:
I re�ret to report that Officers rmes and Pinterics tivere involved in an
accident t•�hile on a regular tour of dut; at 4:30 A.i,T. on Sunday, morning,
FebruartiT 27, 1944.
Ufficer Pinterics drove the squad car into a parked car oyrned by one Peter
rorva.�:h ti�rho resides at 2206 Sou�h :,:ichi�an Street. Both officers have been
ccused of drinl�in� vrhile on duty.
I have been unable to locaLe Gfficer A.�es, but I have susnended afficer Pin-
terics this date pendinv investigatian.

Chief DeVleeschower reported to the Board that Lieutenant Peter
Piechorowski is uriable to continue on active du°t� as a fire:nan because
of ph�sical disal�ilits*. Upon 1115 acceptance for pension b� the �'ire�ens
Pension rund he vrill be placed on pension effect'ive ?;�arch 16, 1944.
` The �hief notified the Board tha't he �,r:as in need of rire and Booster
'Hose and the C'lerk of the �oard was autnorized �o advertise for bids for
1500 feet of 2?" Double Jacr:et Fire I�ose and 200 feet of l�" Double Jacket
Fire Hose and 400' feet of 1'" B"ooster nose. Bids to be received up to
10 :00' �.n.2�. r�7arch 20, 1944. Speciiications are on file in the �oard oF

The �oard authorized I�Tr. �,ualls to make application for a sti°�et li�ht
to be installed at Longley a.nd �1z�er Streets, upon the recommendation of
��,1r. �,u al 1 s.
A petition yras received asking that a street li�ht be installed at�'
the alley intersection of Blaine and �llen Streets. This ,vas referred to
r;2r. C�ualls for investi�ation anct report.
l�1lz�. �uaiis informed the Board that a trafi ic si�nal on the South
East Corner of the intersection oi i:�iichi�an and ':dayne Streets was d�aged
by a trailer belonvin� ta the i;iishai�rar:a T.ioi:or 1 rei�ht Lines. The �oard
ordered the �lerk of the Board' to bill the I;Iisna�,raka Frei�ht Lines ior the
amount of the damage . '

SPECIAL I,1E�TING
A special i�2eetin� of the Board of Public Safety �vas held on Friday,
P,Zarch 10, 1944. All members tivere present. The meeting `�ras called for
the purpose of hearin� char�es preferred against two members of the
South Bend City Police Department, Homer Ames and Frank Pinterics.
It �vas moved, seconded and unanimously carried that the City
Attorney be instructed. to prepare charges agains Officers Ames and
Pinterics, that the Officers be advised of said char�es, and copies
of the s�xne delivered to them. Hearin� on said charges to be held
Friday, I��Zarch 17, 1944.
Copies of said charges are a�tached hereto and rnade a part hereof :
