MEETTNG - SEPTEMBER 13, 1943
A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety ti�as held on Monday,
September 13, 1943 at 10:00 a.m. All members were present. Minutes of
the last meeting were read and. approved. Salary claims in the amount of
�24,171.47 vlere approved and ordered paid. Claims of the following
suppliers in the amount of �435.25 were approved and ordered paid:

POLICE DEPARTP�iENT: Upon the recommendation of Police Chief Everett, the
oard approved the promotion of Officer Carl Shafer to Desk Sergeant
and Sergeant Byron Roe to Captain, to take effect SEptember 15, 1943.
FIRE DEPAR TT�ENT: Chief DeVleeschower was present and matters pertaining
to his department were discussed. .
Letters were sent to four dealers asking for bids on the following
described items; on each of which the cost was less t han �500.00:
1 Booster Tank, having a capacity of at least 100 gallons, made
from Armco Ingot sheets or equal.
"��. ' 1 Turret Nozzle, Larkin U iversal or equal, Three way with 12rr�
1 3�4tt and 2'� discharge tips. _
1 Light Generating Unit, t�o sizes 600 watt and 1250 watt.
Fire ladders, wood, Douglas f ir stock or equal, 2 30 Foot trussed
side extension ladders, 2 26 foot extension ladders, 2 18 foot solid
side wall ladders.
These bids were invited and will be received under the terms of Chapter
129 of the Acts of the 83rd Indiana General Assembly.
The Superintendent of the y'dater �'dorks appeared before the Board and
reported that the Board of '�Nater 'r''Jorks Trustees had directed him to request
the use of off duty firemen frori the Board of Public 'r'lorks and Safety for
the purpose of reading meters. After a complete discussion, upon motion
duly made, the follotiving resolution �ras adopted; RESQLVED: that the
me:nbers oi t'r_e r ire Depart.nent on a_ voluntary basis, may be permitted to
be, emp�oyed by the City ►'Jater �'�lorks. for the purpose of reading meters,at
a rate per. hour established for meter readers, and that the Chief of the
Fire Department is directed to make such txrork available to such £�remen
on. an equal basis as nearly as that.may be possible. And resolve further,
that this variation in the rules concerning emplo9ment for firemen shall
be. limited. to t he work hereinabove specified. .
Applications for special Police Commissions were approved for Glen Walte
Gvrin and a_ renezval for a Special Police bond was �pproved for Samuel W.
Hicks. These were ordered filed.
