The a��ended rule is as. follotvs : Rule ,�6 : "Off icers sha11. devote their entire tim e and atten- tion to the service of the Departrient. They are prohibited from following any o�her calling, en�aging in any other bu�iness, or accepting any comnensaticn for personal services other than t;hose rendered to the Department: 229. afficers may, from time to time as requests are made, serve in the capacity of private �vatchmen or special officers during off-duty time, provided that such additional ti�rork does not interfer ti^rith the performance of their regular duties. Sucn additional employment shall be available to members of the Departrnent only in accordance ;�rith the folloerin� : Requests for officers to undertake such employ- �ent shall be submitted in ti°�rriting �to the Chief of Police, or, in his absence, to the Captain of Patrol; the ;aritten req_uest shall indicate the place, nature and dur�tion of auch emplo;�ment; men shall be assigned from those eff-czuty to accept such emplo�,�ment and such assignrients sha3�1 be made in roataion ` so that each officer .shall hav° an equal opportunity as nearl�r as may be possible, to partici- pate in such addition�l employment. � It shall be understood that no ofiicer, ��hile participating in such� additional er�ploymen�, is excused from tne responsibility of reporting at the call of the Department for emerQencSr duty, rr • - The Board accepted tne resignation of Police Officer poyal Rhymer, effective l�Iarch 24, 1943. �n r�otion aul� r�ade and seconded, the folloti�in� resoluticn �rJas adopted: That, Jt�mes Perry be reinstated in the Police Department, subject to passing the examination required by' the Police and Fire- men's physician and by �he physician appointed by the Police Pension Board, and subject to a report being received by the Board fror,l these phycisians, �aithin tti,ro ti�reeks- from the time of the appointment. The Board approved a nine and one-half (9-1�2) hour working schedule for the Police Departr,ient to become effective at 12 ;01 A. P.T. T�arch 18, 1943. This schedule ti•�as proposed b� the Chief of Police, and is in accordance ti�ith Senate Bill �71, enacted by the 1943 State Legis- lature, providing emergency relief to compensate for men inducted into the armed forces. � Upon petitinn o� the School City and the Indiana University and due to the desire of t he Board to coopera�e ��rith the Army, Officer t`�irt is hereb� �ranted pe�issicn to continue his ccntract ior teach- ing services until his present a:proved contract e:�pires. He is also authorized to provide special radio service to" the P;Iisha�:ra��a Police Department. Officer ;';irt is not to be effected by the nine and one- half hour sch�dule during the life of :��s teaching contract.
