The Honorable Board of Public Works South Bend, Indiana. Gentlemen: - Mr. Thom4s Beaning 4ncl I have made an investigation of the under -ground dis- tr ict as requested by your board. The Postal Telegraph Co. still have over -head wires on Lincoln Way Easton Chapin St., and on La Porte Ave. fhe Chicago ,South Bend & Northern Indiana Ry..Coo have apparently not done anything to place th:;ir feed wires.,telephone wires, or signal wire underground. The business district the Postal Telegraph and the Western Union have call wires crossing the main streets..These wires are .not attached to any poles but run frommone building to the other. The_Chicago,Lake Shore & South Bend Ry. have telephone wires Which are not underground. There has been nothing done on Division St. by the Grand Trunk Western or the Western Union Telegraph Co, towards placing the wires on that street underground. The three blue prints that I an submitting indicate where we found over head construction still in existance belonging to the Home Telephone Co., The Central Union , and the Indiana & Michigan Electric Co.
