Bids were received) opened and rearl for pipe sewer on Golden Avenue
from VToddivard Ave ue to Portage Avenue, Calvert Street from. Miami Street to Hi h St.
and ;water connections on Indians, Avenue From Miami Street to Franklin St-reet. The. .
same were all refer;-0 to the City Engineer -for tabulation to be reported -oncat
7:45 P.M. this 21st. dey of September,1915.
The following ordered was signed and sent to the City Controller.

You are hereby requested to turn over to John Sidman such sum or sums
of money that are now held by you subject to the order of the Board of Public Works as
quaranty for faithful performance of contracts or otherwise with said Board.

Bond and contract signed by Harry N. Barnes, Contractor for cement
walk and curb on Roblinson Street under Improvement Resolution No. 399• was approved
by the Board.

Petition received read and placed on file for are lights at one block
feast of Miami Street on East Donald Street and on Miami Street and Fox Street.
Pole Rnd wire inspector reports that nolo clued by the Central Union
Tel. Co. and beside house at 22.07 Lincoln Way West owned by A. G. Weiss is O.K.
In regard to,'petition for grade, curb and walk on Ernsberger Street
from "Lincoln Rigi.way north;,to:.Spr1ngbrook bridge, a resolution having been ordered

Decision o n petition for grade, curb and walk and gravel pavement on
West Indiana Avenue from Prairie Avenue to South Walnut Street was deferred *dor one month
until Tuesday 00-ober 12th.,1915. at 10:00 A.M.
The City Engineer filed the estimated cost of Keasey Street pavement from
ichigan Street to Carroll Street at ........$5,944.00
Engineer filed assessment roll and final estimate for pipe sewer on
Povnan Street from Bownan Creek Trv.nk sewer to a point 130 ft. E. of East line of Mtichigan
Street, under Improvement Re s olut o n No. 372. In the City of South Bend, Indiana.
Resolved, that notices as to the amounts of assessments be published -on the
??rd. day of September,19.15. and on the 30th. dty of. September.,1915..in the Soutb Pend Daily
Tribune, statinrr that this Board will give a hearing on the amount of such assessments at
its office in the City Hall on the 12th. day of October,1915. at 7:45 P.14.
Resolved- further, that the entire work under the above contracts be ac-
cepted and. approved and the final estimate thereon allowed. Notice of this resolution
shall be published on the 23rd. day of September,1915. and on the 30th. day of September
1915 in the South Bend Daily Tribune. stating that this Board will give a hearing on the
acceptance of such work at its office in the Oity Hall on the 12th. day of October,1915.

LOCI�L SEWER I20ROVEMENT RESOLUTION 'NO. 400.
Resdved by the Board of Public Works of the City of South Bend, County of
St. Joseph, State of Indiana, that the construction of a' local- sewer, intended and adapted
only for local use by the property holders whose property abuts thereon, and not intended
or adaptect for receiving sewerage from collateral drains, be and the same is, hereby
ordered in and along Indiana Avenue from Main Street to Michigan Street as follows, to -wit: -
Beginning at the intersection of the center line of Main Street and
Indiana Avenue; thenee east on the center line of Indicaia Avenue to a point about`100 feet
west of the- west line of. Michigan Street with a 10 inch vitrified pipe sewer. Together va th
the necessary manholes, i1lets, conduits and house connections to the curb line along the
line of said improvement. All as shown on the plans and in accordance witri the profiles
detail drawings and specifications on file in the office of the Department of Public Works
of the City of South Ber_d, Indiana, and said sewer, will all its appurtenances shall be
constructed in accordance with the profile end specifications novr'on file in the office
of the Department of Public Works of said City. The cost of said improvement shall be
apporitioned against and paid by the property holders wh^se property abuts thereon, and
upon the City of South Bend if the City is benefitted by said improvement, all according
to the methodnand manner provided for in Act of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana,
entitled " An' Act ' Concerning Municipal Corporations," approved March 6,1905. Assessments,
if deferred, are to be paid in ten equal annual installment`sm with interest at the rate of
Six per cent per annum. A bond or bonds shall be issued to the contractor in payment for
such vio rk, unless the property owners pay said assessments before said bond or bonds are
issued. Under no circumstances shall the City of South Bend be or be held responsible for
any sum or sums due from said property owner or owners for said work, or for the collection
of same, or for the payment of any bond or bonds, certificate or certifi-Bates, issued to
said ao ntractor in payamt for such vo rk, except for such moneys as shall have been actually
received by the City from the assessment's for such improvement, or such moneys as -said City
is by said above entitled Act required to p%r-. All proceedings had, and work done in the
making of said improvement, assessment of property, collections of assessments andissuance
of bonds therefor, shall be as provided for in said above entitled Act.
Notice of this resolution shall be published on the 22nd. day of Septembe
1915 an on the 29th. day of September,1915 in the South Bend Dily Tribune. This Board v¢ 11
give a hearigg on this resolution at its office in the City Hall on the 19th* day of
October 1915-sat 7:45 P.M.
Adopted this 21st. day of September,1915.

Board met in regular session at 7:45 P.M. All members present.
Hearing had on improvement Resolution No. 405 for the , grading, paving
sidewalk and. curb on Leeper Avenue from notth line.of Angella Avenue to North line
of Howard Street, In the. City of South Bend,' Indiana.
Upon. said hearing remonstrators appeared but no further remonstrance wP:s
filed. And the Board beinn fuliv Ad.visecl in the' premises, decides that the benefits
to p^operty liable to be assessed -'or. said impr.o-►-rents are equal to the estinated
cost of the same, as reported by the CityCi►il Engineer, .and thereupon ts,kes final
action on said resolution` as originally adopted, and the same is hereby in all
things ratified, confirmed and approved.
Resolved further, that notices be published on the 23rd. day of
Septembe r, l9 -_5. and on the 30th. clay of Septembe r,1915. in a newspaper of general
circulation in said City, stating that this Board will receive bids for the -con-
struction of said' improvement up to 10:00 A.M. on the 12th. day of October,1915.
The Board reserves the right to reject any and all bids.
Mr. Brown of North Lafayette Street appeared before the Board and
.,t/ complained about a fence owned by Mrs. Sib&3� of Park Avenue being in part of the
alley at rear of his residence. The City Engineer teas instructed to investigate.

Contract for pipe sewer on Calvert Street from High Street to

Contract for water connections on Indiana Avenue from Franklin
.,-Street to Miami Street, was awarded to Staples & Ackerman, for amount of $926.50
The following petition was received and placed on file.
To the Honorable Board of Public Works
of the City of South Bend.
Your attention is respectfully calle d to the fact that on
✓Division Street, et t;ae several crossings between Michigan and Chapin Streets,
where this Company has heretofore required to maintain lights over its railroad
tracks, the electric lights so maintained have been removed and re -located on the
side of the street near the curb. As re -located said lights became and are only
street lights, and v+en trains are passing only illuminate one side o�f the cra-'sing
made by the tra Ors of this enmi1?any over said streets. Tf s. circuit of incan-
descent, lights were placed on said. nJ_vision. Street from Michigan to Laurel Streets
two lights enuld bA located at each cro-sing, one or each side thereof, so that both
sides of the rQ.ilro?d. crossings would be properly illiuminatec' and. the total cost
thereof not increased. Such an arrangementtins already been made at the Lafayette
Street erossing
