Board met in regular session at 10:00 A.A. All members present.
Mr. Irvin Jackson appeared befor the Board and presented a petit.on foe
water main, the same was referred to the Water Works Dept., -
Bids were received, opened and read for curb and sidewalk on Dubail Avenu efrom
the west line of High St. to West Line of Dale Avenue: The same were referred. to the
City Engineer for tabulation.
Mr. 'Geo. M. Urey appeared beforethe Board and petitioned in the -interest of
the Trustees of the Brethern Chuech of South Michigan to elose for a period of two
,--'weeks the alley between Paris and Pennsylvania Avenue and between Michigan and the first
alley east thereof. The permission was granted.
Contrators bond for the amount of One Thousand ($1,000.00)Dollars was filed
by C.L.Headley and approved.
Remonstrance filed against pavement on Allen Street from Van Buren Street to
v Portage A venue . The Board ordered same placed on file.
Mr. Forest Hillier en-DPared before the Board, in regard to assessment on
High; Street Trunk sewer. The Board advised Mr. Hillier that they would reduce Martha
E . Hillier assessment to One Thousand Dollars, the same was agreeable with Mr. Hillier.
Communication received and placed on file from Central Union Tel. Co.
/ advising Board that pole at 705 W. Wayne Ste was removed.
In regard to complaint about pole in way of cement sidewalk in .fron tof
622 We Division St. The` Pole` anti wire inspector reported that this is a Grand Trunk
Tel. 00. pole and should be removed entirely and the wires put underground. Recommended
holding same up for a while.

We respectfully refer this request for more office room to your Honorable
Board, trusting that you will see the matter in the same light we do, and the nec-
essity and impeetance of providing more room for this departemtn in the near future.

To the Honorable Board of Public Safety,
of the City of South Bend, Indiana.'
Gentlemen:-
I wish to call your .attention to the Bertillion and Finger Print Department
The fact is that this room is all together two small for the work being donein it,and
/ the records have been tampered with, and it is necessary to keep the index cards and
✓ records in perfect order, and this can be done only by keeping them in a room where the
general public cannot handle them,and I would respectfully suggest that the matter of
more room be taken up by your Honorable Body with the Honorable Board of Public Works.

Mr C. D. Emmons of the Chicago, South Bend & Northern Indiana Ry. Company
,/ appeared before the Board, and informed the Board that he had no underground wiring to
do, but that he would clean up his wires in the underground district. He also submitted
a blue print of changing his tracks from Lincoln Way East along Ennsperger Street east,
and making the necessary repairs in the street and placing curb and gravel sidewalk
and putting everything in good condition. The same was agreeable with the Board.

Contract for water connections on Franklin Street from Sample Street to
Indiana Avenue, signed by Thilman Borthers was approved by the Board.
Permission granted the Central Union. Tel. Company to place one 9 foot
anchor south of the first pole north of Washington St. west- side of the alley between
Huey and Sadie Streets, same to be a few feet north of Washington St. property line.
In regard to complaint received about pole in the way of drive to garage
in alley at 515 Dubail Avenue, the Board ordered that the Indiana & Michigan Elec. Co.
be ordered to move said pole Wo the south about 20 feet.
Contract for heating presented by the St. JosephHeating Company Fans
received and placed on file.

Board met in regular session at 7:45 P.M. All members present.
Deferred hearing; had on Improvement Resolution No. 400 for Paving and
grading Prairie Avenue from rant Street to Western City Limits with gravel. In the
city of South Bend, Indiana.
Upon said hearing no remonstrators appeared and no remonstrances were
filed. And the Board being fully advised in the premises, decided to modify said
resolutiO4 to read as Follows, To pave with gravel the roadway 18 feet wide from Grant
Street WEwing Avenue. And decides that'the property liable to be assessed for said
improvement are equal to the estimated cost of the same, as reported by the,City
Civil Engineer, and thereupon takes final action on said resolution as modified, and
the same is hereby in all things ratified, confirmed and approved.
Resolved further, that noti ces be published on the'20th. day of Aug-.
1915 and on the 27th. day of August,1915 in a newspaper of -general circulation in said
City, stating that this Board w_ ll receive bids for the construction of said improve-
ment -to 10:00 A.M. on the nth. day of September,1915. f The Board reserves the right
to re ject any and all bids.
Hearing had on Improvement resolution No. 399- for grade, curb and
sidewalk on Robinson Street from South lot S' in M.S. Robinson's 2nd. Plat to Lake
Shore & M. S. Ry. Co. In the City of South Bend, Indiana.
Upon said hearing no remonstrators appeared and no remonstrances were
filed. And the Board being Silly advised in the premises, decides that the benefits
to property liable to be assessed for said improvement are equal to the estimated cost
of the same, as reported by the City Civil Engineer, and thereupon takes final action
on said resolution as orignally adopted, and the same is hereby in all things rati-
fied, a> nfirmed and approved.
Resolved further, that notices be published on the 20th. day of
August,1915 and on the 27th. day of August,1915 in a newspaper of general circulation
in said city,.stating that this.Board will receive bids for the construction of said
improvements up to 10:00 A.M. on the 7th. day of September,1915. The Board reserves
the right to reject any and all bids.
Deferred hearing had on Condemnation Resolution No. 3$ for the purpose
of appropriating a strip of land for the Widening of Eddy Street and Mishawaka Avenue
from Jefferson Blvd. to the east line of Pottowatomie Park, In the City of South Bend,
Indiana.
-:'The .Board having,the.: above - natter under advisement decided to
Widen Eddy Street and Mishawaka Avenue from Jefferson Blvd. to east line of rotto-
watamie $rk` :(The cost of ;same to be; about Eig?,-teeen hundred (f ,900.00 per acre�j)
and hereby takes final action on said resolution, confirming without modifyc'tion, all
former action taken on the same.
The Board therefore declares the above
condemned and appropriated for public use, The board now

In the above matter remonstrators appeared and no written remonstrance
was filed.. The Boardafter due consideration decided to modify said assessment roll
as follows: To cut off 120 Peet on Grant Street from Division Street south, and `the
assessment for same to be paid out of the General Mind, this being about One hundred and
thirty two ($132.00)Dollars. The 120 feet cut off being general benefit and not
benefits to locality. D
The Board now finds that the property assessed in said rolls filed July
27th.1915 is benefited in the amount as shown on modified assessment roll written in
red, and the Board further find that the assessment rolls filed July 27th.1915
and as modified on this 17th. day of August,1915 and the final estimate allowed July
i419�.5,,:.shoud be and the same are hereby in all things ratified, confirmed and
approved.
Rearing had on assessment roll and final estimate for Trunk sewer
V on High Street from Dayton Street to Bowman Street under Improvemt Resolution No, 349.
In the City of South Bend, Indiana* the same being continued until to -day, was considered
by the Board and all interested persons appeared were heard acid the Board modified the
said assessment roll as follows: By withdrawing the assessments from lots 16#to 34 and
41 to 62 inclusive 1n Oak Park -4th. addition owned by Martha' E. Hillier. The amount de— -
ducted being $ 505.75 and the same to be paid by the City through its Board of Public
Works. -
And the Board now finds that the several parcels and lots of land
as assessed in said modified assessment roll are specially benefited in the amounts
assessed against them in said modified assessment roll. And the Board now approves
and confirms said assessment roll as modified in all things.
Hearing given on rolls of awards of damages and assessments of
---benefits in the matter of appropriating a strip fo land for the Opening of alley east of
St. Peter Street from: Howard Street to First alley North of -Howard Street under Condemnation
Resolution No. 35; In the City of South Bend, Indiana.
In the above matter no remonstrators appeared and no remonstrance
was filed. The Board find t:iat the property mentioned in said rolls are benefited and
damaged respectfully as shown in said roll and said roll is hereby in all things ratified,
confirmed and app roved. And all action under Condemnation Resolution No. 35, is hereby
concluded.
Hearing given on m Us of awards of damages and assessments of
Y benefits in the matter of appropriating for public use a strip of land for the opening
of all between Notre Dame and St. Peter Street from Corby Street to Howard Street, in
the City of South Bend, Indiana.
In the above matter remonstrators appeared but no written remon—
strance was filed. The Board find that the property mentioned in said rolls are benefited
and damaged respectfully as shown in said roll, and -said roll is hereby in all things
ratified, confirmed and approved. And all action under Condemnation Resolution No. a6
is hereby concluded.
Hearing had on assessment rolls for Madam Pa verve t on Fulton
---and Hamden Court from La Salle Avenue to the 1st. alley north, under Improvement
Resolutions Nos. 3799 and 351.
In the above matter no remonstrators appeared, there being a
waiver siigned and on pages 676,677 and 678 of this record, waiving all right to advertisig
and remonstrating. The Board confirmed and approved the above assessment rolls.
Hearing on assessment rolls for the water connections on Hamden and
Fulton Court from La Salle Avenue to the 1st. alley north, under Improvement resolutions
Nos. 395 and 3$4.°
In the above no reonstrators appeared, therebeing a waiver signed
and on file on pages .676,677 and 678 of this record, waiving all right to remonstrate.
The Board approved said assessment rolls.

In regrard to complaint about two poles at..S.E. corner of Walnut St..
and Division St. The Pole and wire inspector reported.that a;tall pole should be
set at the corner where the Home Tel. Company pole now stands and be used jointly
and remove two poles and anchor to theneast.with a guy slug. The said.repo rt was
approved and notice ordered sent to The South Bend Dome Tel. Co. and Indiana, & Mich..
Elea. Co.
Pole and wire inspector reported on complaint about pole with defOe-rent
companies wires on in lot at south Francis Street S.E. corner of ,Jefferson Blvd.
This Is a joint pole. Indiana & Michigan Elea. Co. &ome Tel. Co. Central Union
Tel. Company the pole standsnon private grounds. The wires passes through an Oak S
treet. The limbs of the tree are dying caused by a guy wire tied around the trunk of
the tree. Tlie limbs of the tree have been cut off to clear the wires. One pair
Elea. wires with a drop. One pair C.U. Tele and two pairs of Home Tel. Co.
wires, a guy wire from Pole to the tree. The Board approved of the above rcpprt '
and the property ov�mer to be notified that this is private grounds and the City has
no jurisdiction over same.
By motion of Mr. J.B.Weberand seconded by Xr. A.H. Rice,,,,,.-., c:ontract for
