HomeMy WebLinkAbout08/03/1915 Board of Public Works Minutes729 Board met in regular session at 10: 00 A.M. Mr. AHRice absent. Mr. H. G. Christman of the H. G. Christman Co, and Mr. Campbell Supt. for J.H. Cahill Co. contractor constructing Miehigan� Street trunk sewer and Mr. L. Oare, attorney, appeared before the Board: Mr. Christman had up the matter of excavating to between the property line and roadway for the basement of the Union Trust Bank Bldg. at the'Corner of Michigan Street and Jefferson Street, which was not agreeable with Mr Campbell of the J.H.Cahili Co. The Board instructed Vr. Christman to excavate only to property line, all other excavation A4 4bove -mention ,Street to be agreedoupo, between and Kr r.Campbell Supt. for J.H.Cahill Co. contractor on above mentione d trunk sewer. Bids were received, read and referred to the City Engineer for tabulation for wa#er ennnections on Franklin Street from Sample Street to Indiana Avenue and on Tonti Avenue from Tecumseh Ave. to Lafayette Street. Bids were received, oened and read for Record Book in office of the Board. R. W. Gafill Bindery being the lowest bidder, the contract for awarded to him at the All price of $14.75. Partial estimate allowed C.H. De Frees on the North Michigan Street asphaltic concrete pavement from'Foote Street to bridge and interesection at North Shore Drive at...................$1,075.43 Street Commissioner reported on complaint about street -car tracks on Mimi Street and says street car company expects to fix Miami Street tracks in two weeks.. The City Civil Engineer filed the cstim^,ted costs of follovd.ng inprove- ments. Pipe seweb on Calvert Street from High St reet.to Miami Street at ..$2,400200 Pipe Sewer on Golden Ave from Portage Ave. to Woodward Ave ...... $275.00 Oiled roadway on Lindsey Street from Portage Avenue to Blain Avenue at $450.00 Macadam pavement on Bartlett Street from St. Joseph Street to Riverside Drivenat...•••... 00.00 Grade, curb and gravel on Prairie Avenue from Grant Street to the City Limits at ...........$2,820.00 In regard to the assessment roll for pipe sewer' on Jacob Street from v Jefferson Blvd to the lst alley north, there being a waiver signed that there be no advertising and hearing on same, Mr. E. Louis Kuhns appeared before the Board and stated said improvement was satisfaetory, and the Board approved said assessment roll and instructed the Clerk to turn same over to the City Controller for collection. Cemetery Sexton filed financial statement of the City Cemetery for the month o f July ,1915. Concerning the improvement of -the roadway of Franklin Street from Sanple Street to Indiana Avenue in pursuance to resolution No. 3£?8, the petition of freeholders residing on'said street has been considered, and the report of the City Engineer has been received, and all evidence is heard, and the Board finds that said petitioners do not constitute a majority of the freeholders residing on the street to be improved, and here— by. denies said petition. And the` City Engineer reports that - C.H.De Frees Is tb.e lowest and' best b! rider for the kind of pavement heretofore -adopted by the Board, :and: the Board 'so finds-2 :and lets the contract for said improvement to him, and orders that said r improvement be made with Ironstone Brick laid on a gravel foundation and all proceedings heretfore had in this matter are hereby confirmed and ratified. Complaint received of a Central Union Telephone Co. pole in the way of drive at 2208 Linden Avenue. Avenue. 297 ft. first alley south of Vistula and E. of Mich. 175 ft. first alley E. of St. Joe azid S. of Vistula-9 410 ft. alley east of Carroll and S. of Vistula. 345 ft. alley south of Wayne and E. of Carroll. 1000 ft. from the end of our present underground on Sample Street east on Vistula Ave. to Miami St. inside of curb in the parkway. Resolved, that notices as to the amounts of assessments be published on the 6th. day of August,1915 and on the 13th. day of August,1915 in the South Bend^Daily Tribune, stating that this Board will give a hearing on the amount of such assessments at its office in the City Hall on the 24th. day of August,1915 at 7:45 P.M. Resolved further, that the entire work under the above contracts be accepted and approved and the final estimate thereon allowed. Kauffman,Secy. of Clement Studebaker estate, owners of property, according to waivers irned on May 25th.,1915 and on pages 676 and 677 of this record.Hearing for acceptance of such vrork will be had on Tuesday August 17th.,1915 at 7:45 P.M, in the office of the Board. The Board ordered a resolution prepared on the petition for the Opening of Carroll Street south through to Tutt Street. The Board instructed the Clerk to notify City Attorney Seebirt to draw up ✓ Ordinance for the placing of an Are light on College Street at intersection of C.I.& S. R:y. Company between Werwinski and Repel Streets. The Board o„dered that an 90 C.P. Lamp be placed at the corner of Longley Avenue and College Street. CONDEMNATION RESOLUTION NO. 39.1915• Resolved by the Board of Public Works of the City of South Bend, Indiay}a: That the following described property be appropriated for the use of said City. For widening Webster Street as follows to-wit::- 16 feet off the east side of lot 1 in Daniel Gise's Addition. Described as follows,Beginning at the north east corner of lot 1 in Daniel Gise's Addition to South Bend; thence south on the east line of said lot 1-150 feet to the south east corner of said lot 1, thence west 16 feet; thence north parallel to and 16 feet distant from the east line of said lot 1 to the south line of Indiana Avenue; thence east 16 feet to the place of beginning. ALSO: Beginning at the south west corner of lot 3 in William Noland's Addition to South Bend; thence west 11 feet to the east line of John A. Swygart's Replat of Geo. W. Spygart's 3rd.
