The third party insurance carrier reimbursements have accumulated in the General Fund #101 over the last twenty-four (24) months, and such accumulated monies will be used to fund the acquisition of the vehicles. The sum of $95,000 should therefore be appropriated to purchase and equip the replacement vehicles. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA as follows: Section I. The sum of$95,000.0.0 is hereby appropriated and set aside within General Fund#101 to purchase four (4)vehicles and equip said vehicles appropriately for the specific use and specific needs of the City of South Bend Police Department. Section II. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect fr and a er its passage by the Common Council and approval by the yor. The vehicles will be acquired through either the State of Indiana QPA, Federal Government GSA Auto Choice Program, or existing 2011 Board of Public Works Vehicle Bid Award. The monies used to fund the vehicle acquisition will be from existing cash balance in the general fund which has accumulated over the last twenty-four (24) months, from insurance settlements.received from third party insurance carriers for vehicle damages caused by third party events. At present, the city has a current balance of$113,110 received from third party insurance carriers with the sole intended use to fund the replacement of the vehicles damaged by the third party's. With Council approval of this appropriation, the remaining unused balance of insurance reimbursement will be $18,110 sequestered in the general fund to accumulate for future third party damaged vehicle replacement. This bill is presented to Council for 15t read on September 12, 2"d read, public hearing, 3`d read and Council vote at the September 26, 2011 Council meeting.
