KOLATA FOR EXTRAORDINARY SERVICE TO THE SOUTH BEND REDEVELOPMENT COMMISSION WHEREAS, Ann E. Kolata has been an employee of the City of South Bend since 1979 and in her twenty years of public service has served as Director of Redevelopment for twelve years; and WHEREAS, Ann played a leadership role in developing plans for the East Bank Development Area, Monroe Park Development Area, the Sample Ewing Development Area, and the Airport Economic Development Area (better known as Blackthorn) as well as the more recent Downtown and Commercial Corridor Strategic Action Plans, providing vision and practical experience in preparation of these plans; and WHEREAS, Ann played a leading role in setting policy and negotiating through the details of many important projects; and WHEREAS, Ann had an active role in projects such as the East Race Waterway; the River Walk system; Coveleski Stadium, the re- opening of Michigan Street; Monroe Park and Studebaker Corridor; the One Michiana Square, American Motors General, and McGladrey Pullen office buildings; Teachers Credit Union; the Pointe at St. Joseph Apartments, West Washington Homes, Central High School Apartments, Stephenson Mill Apartments, and Robertson's Apartments; Southeast Heritage Housing; Blackthorn Golf Course and Blackthorn Corporate Park; the College Football Hall of Fame, the St. Joseph County Juvenile Justice Center; the Boys and Girls Club at Family and Children's Center - Southeast; the new campus of Ivy Tech State College; the Leighton Plaza project and the Morris Performing Arts Center; and WHEREAS, during her tenure with the Commission Ann often had to make difficult decisions that were not popular with all segments of the community, but which she felt were vital for the future of South Bend; and WHEREAS, Ann coordinated and led the efforts of the staff and outside consultants with respect to the designation of the first tax increment area by the Redevelopment Commission which resulted in the first tax increment bond issue in the State of Indiana in 1985; and WHEREAS, Ann has never forgotten the public that she serves, giving unselfishly of her time for the betterment of the community, with no concern for individual honor or recognition; and WHEREAS, Ann has now decided to retire and devote time to her family and granddaughter and is now retiring from her position with the Commission. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the South Bend Redevelopment Commission hereby recognizes Ann E. Kolata for her extraordinary commitment and distinguished service to the South Bend Redevelopment Commission and the City of South Bend; thanks her for the outstanding contributions she has made; and declares it will sincerely miss her diligent work and her presence at future meetings. ADOPTED at a meeting of the South Bend Redevelopment Commission held on June 16, 2000, at 1308 County -City Building, 227 W. Jefferson Boulevard, South Bend, Indiana 46601.
