HomeMy WebLinkAbout08/13/07 Committee Meeting Minutesa Public Works and Property Vacation Committee 2007 South Bend Common Council The August 13, 2007 meeting of the Public Works and Property Vacation Committee of the South Bend Common Council was called to arder by its Chairperson, Council Member David Varner at 3:46 p.m. in the Council's Informal Meeting Room, Persons in attendance included Council Members Kelly, Varner, Pfeifer, Kirsits, Dieter, Kuspa, Rouse, and Puzzello; Citizen Member J. Edward Talley, Public Works Director Gary Gilot, Mrs. Kopola, Jamie Loo of the South Bend Tribune and Kathleen Cekanski- Farrand, Council Attorney. Dr. Varner noted that the Committee members include Council Members Pfeifer, Dieter, Kelly and himself; along with J. Edward Talley as the Citizen Member. Bill No 43-07: Request to Vacate Ist EMI Alley north of Northside Boulevard Public Works Director Gary Gilot noted that they have no objection to having a parking lot constructed between the two (2) affected lots which would be subject to the requested vacation. The Council Attorney noted that the Petitioner has requested that this Bill be continued until the August 27, 2007 Council meeting. Citizen Member Talley made a motion, seconded by Council Member Pfeifer that Bill No. 43-07 be continued until August 27, 2007 at the request of the petitioner. The motion passed. Bill No. 07-10'I : Resolution Reqardinq the Purchase of 738 Leland Avenue: Dr. Varner noted that the Petitioner has sent a letter requesting that this Bill be continued indefinitely. Citizen Member Talley made a motion, seconded by Council Member Dieter that Bill No. 07-101 be continued indefinitely at the request of the petitioner. The motion passed. There being no further business to come before the Committee, Dr. Varner adjourned the meeting at 3:24 p.m. Respectfully submitted, . _.._ J - ~ <.~ -~- Council Member David~~ G~' ~rp on Public Works and Property Vacation Committee e ~ Zonin and Annexation Cornrr~ittee Meeting g 2007 South Bend Common Council The August 13, 2007 meeting of the Zoning and Annexation Committee of the South Bend Common Council was called to order by its Chairperson, Council Member AI "Buddy" Kirsits at 3:32 p.m. in the Council's Informal Meeting Room. Persons in attendance included Council Members Rouse, Pfeifer, Kelly, Puzzello, Kirsits, Dieter, and Kuspa; J. Edward Talley, Robert Nemeth, Martha Lewis, Jeffrey J. Hodes, Jamie Loa of the South Bend Tribune and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand, Council Attorney. Counci! Member Kirsits noted that the committee members include Council Members Kuspa, Pfeifer, Varner and himself. Substitute Bill IVo. 31-{37 Rezoning Request for 218 Chapin Street Council Member Kirsits called for a report from the staff of the Area Plan on Bill No. 31- 07 which is a request to rezone the property located at 218 Chapin Street in Councilmanic District 2 (copy attached) Robert Nemeth, a staff member with the Area Plan Commission noted that the Area Plan Commission held a public hearing on Substitute Bill No. 31-07 and that received a favorably recommendation. Jeffrey J. Hodes, of 218 Chapin Street made the formal presentation. He noted that he is requested to change the zoning of the property from Mixed Use District (MU) to Singe Family and Two Family District (SF2). This is the home which he shares with his wife, Janine Russell-Hodes, who is the co-petitioner. He noted that the property was part of the Studebaker Museum development, and through mis-communications, the property was not rezoned. This would correct that situation. Council Member Pfeifer noted that the property in question used to be the office of Planned Parenthood. She is very glad to see the property being used as residential. She then made a motion, seconded by Council Member Kuspa that Substitute Bill No. 31-07 be recommended favorably to Council. The mation passed.
