The Board of Public Safety met in a Special Meeting at 8:05 a.m. on Wednesday, March 23, 2011
with Board Members Patrick D. Cottrell, Bruce BonDurant, and Laura Vasquez present. Board
President Juanita Dempsey and Board Member Eddie Miller were absent. Also present were Police
Chief Darryl Boykins, and Attorney Cheryl Greene.
The meeting was held in the Board of Public Works Meeting Room, 13`h Floor County City
Building, South Bend, Indiana.
POLICE DEPARTMENT
APPROVE FINDINGS OF FACT - CHARGE 2011 -02 — JAMES WALSH
On March 15, 2011, Police Chief Darryl Boykins filed Charges against Sergeant James Walsh
pursuant to I.C. 36- 8 -3 -4. Prior to the serving of the Charges 2011 -02, Sergeant Walsh read the
Charges and Disciplinary Action letter from Chief Boykins. On March 7, 2011, Sergeant Walsh filed
in writing with the Board of Safety an acceptance of the punishment of twenty -one (21) consecutive
calendar days suspension recommended by the Chief and stated he will not request a hearing.
Therefore, Mr. Cottrell requested a motion to accept and approve the Findings of Facts and the
Charges 2011 -02 as presented. Upon a motion by Mr. BonDurant, seconded by Ms. Vasquez and
carried, the Findings of Fact as presented were approved and signed. The Board of Public Safety
found that for his actions, Sergeant Walsh shall be suspended from duty without pay for twenty -one
(2 1) consecutive calendar days effective on a date chosen by the Chief of Police.
ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business to come before the Board, Mr. Cottrell declared the meeting
adjourned at 8:07 a.m.
