Enjoy a FREE morning of kite-flying at Coveleski Stadium, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. Two teams of kite flyers will present a unique "air show" on the outfield, and kites will be available for children to assemble and fly. Or bring your own kite and show off your aeronautic skills! In addition, historical and modern aviation equipment from the collections of the Center for History, Studebaker National Museum, South Bend Regional Airport, and Atlantic Aviation will be on display, as well as information about local contributions to aviation. Tours of Coveleski will also be available, the kids' play area will be open, and concessions will be available for purchase. Festival of'Flightis sponsored by the City of South Bend, Historic Preservation Commission of South Bend & St. Joseph County, South Bend Silver Hawks, Chicago Kite, Studebaker National Museum, Center for History, and South Bend Regional Airport. It is part of South Bend City Celebration 2007, a yearlong festival of events and programs held on the 29th of every month to showcase all that our community has to enjoy. Locales include the Pierre Navarre Cabin at Leeper Park, the Muessel-Ellison & Ella Morris Greenhouse & Conservatories, Howard Park Ice Rink, St. Joseph Co. Public Library, the College Football Hall of Fame, more - Northern Indiana Center for History, South Bend Regional Museum of Art, Studebaker National Museum, City Cemetery, Coveleski Stadium, and the Jon Hunt Plaza (in front of the Morris Performing Arts Center). Each event has been designed to entertain residents and visitors from ages 3 to 103. Everyone is invited! South Bend City Celebration is a collaboration between the City of South Bend and the Historic Preservation Commission of South Bend & St. Joseph County.
