CITY OF SOUTH BEND ISSUES RESIDENTIAL PARKING GUIDELINES FOR
SECOND NOTRE DAME HOME GAME
The City of South Bend today issued information for residents and visitors to the City
concerning parking on Saturday, September 22, 2007 for Notre Dame's second 2007 home
football game. Current City law prohibits parking in front yards in residential neighborhoods,
but the South Bend Common Council has pending a bill which would allow front-yard parking
on game days and for certain other major events with specific terms and conditions. While that
proposed ordinance is pending before the Common Council, the City has elected to limit its
parking enforcement.
As the City did before the first home game of 2007, the City's Legal Department issued
Parking Guidelines, a copy of this is provided with this release. Mayor Luecke welcomed visitors
to the community for start of Notre Dame's football season, but urged residents and visitors to be
respectful of those living in South Bend's residential neighborhoods. This message is reiterated
again, as South Bend welcomes fans for this weekend's game.

FRONT-YARD PARKING GUIDELINES
The following guidelines are issued to assist residents and visitors to the City of South
Bend, on Saturday, September 22, 2007, understand enforcement by the City of South Bend of
various provisions of the South Bend Municipal Code relating to parking in residential
neighborhoods.
The South Bend Common Council currently has under consideration Bill 44-07 which
would allow front yard parking in residential neighborhoods under certain conditions. That bill
will not be considered by the Council until its meeting of September 24, 2007. All versions of
that bill to date have provided for front yard parking during game days under certain conditions.
Therefore, on Saturday, September 22, 2007, the City of South Bend will not prohibit parking in
front yards in residential neighborhoods.
However, in order to ensure the safety of the general public, the City will continue to
enforce its Municipal Code in the following circumstances:
1. Parking which blocks or hinders access by public safety vehicles on all public
streets and rights of way.
2. Parking which blocks or impedes access to sidewalks, fire hydrants, and
driveways.
3. Driving over curbs and sidewalks, other than on a paved driveway.
Residents and visitors are reminded to be respectful of neighboring property when
parking and walking through neighborhoods.
