An informational meeting is planned for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, for residents to view and
discuss planned improvements to Olive Road near the South Bend Regional Airport.
The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, at the South Bend Regional Airport's
public safety building, which is located west of the terminal building. Participants may access the
facility by entering the airport at the new roundabout and turning left at the former route for
Lincolnway West to access the public safety building.
Representatives of the City of South Bend, the airport and the project's engineering consultant
will be on hand to answer questions and address concerns.
Planned improvements to Olive Road will extend from the F. Jay Nimtz Parkway/Old Cleveland
Rd. south to Lincolnway West and Pine Road. 'They are scheduled to begin in summer 2008 in
tandem with the airport's efforts to redesign and rebuild the interchange at U.S. 20 and the U.S.
31 Bypass.
"The changes planned will provide improved utilization of the airport and the necessary
infrastructure to accommodate industrial growth for the area,"said Nicholas Witwer, economic
development planner for the City of South Bend's Department of Community and Economic
Development.
In 2004, Olive Road was widened to four lanes between Brick Road and the F. Jay Nimtz
Parkway.
