Tournament Chairman Terry Bland announced that Mayors Steve Luecke and Jeff Rea will join in the kickoff of the 82°d Annual Metro Golf Tournament on Saturday morning at 7:30 am at Elbel Golf Course. The Mayors will fire off the first round of the day. The first two rounds will be played at Elbel Golf Course this Saturday and Sunday. The third round will move to Erskine Golf Course on July 28 and the last round, after the final cut of the tournament, will be held at the Warren Golf Course at Notre Dame on July 29. "The South Bend District Golf Association encourages interest in the game of golf especially among area youth while showcasing the great golf courses that South Bend has to offer," said Bland. "Thanks to the support of Bobick's Pro-Shop, who once again is sponsor of the event, the SBDGA will donate a portion of the proceeds to South Bend Parks and Recreation Department's Junior Golf program." "In addition," added Bob Goodrich, South Bend Park Board Member and long-time SBDGA member, "our Association also emphasizes the importance of education by providing college scholarships to area high school seniors. This year, $2000 scholarships are being awarded to three local students who will pursue golf in college. -more- Page 2. In 2005, for the first time since its inception in 1925, the tournament was expanded to include all of St. Joseph County. With this change, the Association plans to increase the level of participation and competition by including great golfers from Mishawaka, Granger, and other parts of the county. This year, 180 participants will compete in the four round, two weekend event. South Bend resident Ken Wilkinson holds the record for most career wins with ten and three-time winner Adam Darrow announced he was going pro in 2006. - 30 -
