ADAMS MOCK TRIAL TEAM RECOGNIZED BY THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND
For the seventh year in a row, an Adams High School
fi^ Mock Trial team earned the title state champion. After
the team's latest win,the City of South Bend recognized
the program's accomplishments by unveiling city
recognition signs.The signs will soon be placed at each
y _ of the eight gateway entry points throughout the City of
South Bend.

Overmyer said, 'The growth of the program has been
mostly fed by the success of the program."
The Adams High School team known as the Renegades placed third in the nation at the National
High School Mock Trial Competition in Dallas,Texas in May.
Former Adams High School senior Michael Smyth was named the best
mock trial attorney in the nation for a second year in a row.
"Certainly whatever I choose to do, if it's in some sort of a public arena,
this has been invaluable. It lets you get up in front of a large group of
people and speak,think on your feet, move around in front of a judge,
argue things on the fly," said the 18-year-old who plans to attend the
University of Pennsylvania this fall.
On the front lawn of Adams High School on May 3, South Bend Mayor
Steve Luecke congratulated program organizers and the students who make up the team. "We
are so proud of the Adams'team and the tradition they built here with the mock trial, winning
state seven years in a row, and its tie for the most consecutive wins all across the country," said
Luecke. He continued, "Hopefully some of them will decide on some careers in government, and
become elected officials in future years."
In the past seven years,Adams High School has placed in the top ten nationally six times.
Adams Mock Trial organizers believe this may be the most consistent showing of any team that
has made it to a national competition during the past seven years.
