The bridge lights are reproductions of the George Cutter fixtures that previously graced the bridge. George Cutter, a friend and contemporary of Thomas Edison, fabricated his lovely street lamps and other electrical fixtures here in South Bend between 1906, and the time of his death in April 1915. The George Cutter Works was ultimately absorbed by Westinghouse, which continued production of his designs after his death. The replacement of the Cutter replica fixtures represents a collaborative effort between the City of South Bend and Indiana Department of Transportation. The Historic Preservation Commission wishes to express appreciation to both entities. All are welcome to attend!
