South Bend Fire Hosts Indiana River Rescue School
This week, firefighters from Kansas, Ohio, Kentucky, as well as Monticello, Anderson, and
Decatur, Indiana are participating in swift water rescue training at South Bend's East Race
Waterway and on the St. Joseph River. Multiple trainings stations will be operating along the
downtown riverfront.
Following a week on the water mastering an array of in-water skills, 30+ First Responders will
receive state certification for Swift Water Rescue. This year, South Bend Fire is partnering with
Zodiac Boats and Mustang International to provide additional certification and training.
In addition to the Indiana River Rescue Certification, participants will also complete Zodiac
Maritime Boat Certification. Mustang International, an outfitter for Military/Marine equipment is
using South Bend as a site for new product testing and for product research and development.
Mustang's R & D Product Engineer will be on site as well.
Training will be on-going Wednesday and Thursday from 8am— 5 pm. Testing will take place on
Friday. Media opportunities can be schedule for Wednesday and Thursday to avoid any conflicts
