South Bend Arts Scene in Full Bloom at Spring Art Walk 2007
Everyone's looking for a good excuse to get outside this spring, and
we've found a great one. A profusion of galleries are in bloom at
this year's Spring Art Walk 2007. On May 5ffi, from 11:00am to
5:00pm, eleven galleries along the Colfax Ave and Lincoln Way
West Arts Corridors will throw open their doors and a give South
Bend residents a great chance to explore downtown's burgeoning
urban arts scene. Live music and food will augment what's sure to
be a wonderful afternoon, with enough art to suit every taste
imaginable.
Visit Piser Designs to see beautifully furniture, wine racks and wood items, hand crafted by local
artisans, or go next door to browse a selection of fine paper, letter-pressed stationary and
handmade books at Spark Design Studio.
If you're interested in local artists, Circa Arts Gallery will be featuring paintings, pottery and
jewelry from over 60 local artists (as well as hosting the contemporary folk sounds of Wolf&
Whitledge). Or you can check out an exhibition of Midwestern artists at the "Art & Social
Justice Show" at Colfax Campus Galleries.
Fire Arts, Inc. is holding their annual Garden Show during this year's Spring Art Walk, full of
artwork for your garden and patio. Saturday is also Fire Arts' mini-workshop day, where
everyone can make their own piece of artwork under the guidance of a professional. Create a
one-of-a-kind masterpiece in bronze, clay, stone...or even soap!
The South Bend Regional Art Museum will play host to a number of events, including Biennieal
24, a look at 15 Midwestern artists in the Warner Gallery, the African American Arts
Association in the Community Gallery, a showcase of local artist Shawn Krueger in the Dot
Weikamp Gallery, and the musical stylings of the Dizzy Gelespies.
Studio Arts Center will host an arts extravaganza at Spring Art Walk 2007. View the current
exhibits in Gallery 805 and Studio 807 and 815. Studio Arts Center will also host a"Starvin'
Artists" sale, where original paintings and photography will be sold for no more than $150 per
piece!
Indulge your inner baroque at the Radecki Galleries as you browse a great collection of 19th and
20th century art and antiques, or your urban sensibilities with live electronic music and cutting-
edge postmodern art at The Spurious Fugitive gallery.
The Art Walk will take place on Saturday, May 5a', from 11:00am to 5:00pm. There is no
admission fee to any of the galleries, and there will be plenty of free downtown parking. To
