Chief D Vleeschower was present and submitted the Department �s I:ionthly
Report or the month of P�ay, 1939. The report vras ordered placed cn file.

Chief DE;Vleeachower also submitted a report relative to the probation of �I
Fireman Hareld Zilmer. The report sha��s that P;ir. Zilmer has completed i
his pro��ationary period and recommends his perr.�anent appointr.ient. '.Phis ,
recommezidation was considered by the Board and it �ras moved, seccnded 'i
and unaziimously carried that the above-mentioned reco�nendation be ac- �
cepted :�nd rp�r. Zilmer be promoted to f irst class fireman as of June 1,1939.'

POLICE 1)EYART:viENT: •

Chief Irigram. appeared before the Board and matters pertainin� to �is de- '
partmeni; �rere discussed. The Chief reported rrogress on painting of po-
lice ca��s and inquired concerning transfers of a police insignia rrhich
are eas'.ly applied. He tivas instructed by tne Board to contact the source
of supp:.y of the transfers and report his findin�a at a future meeting.

A reque:�t from St. Stanislaus � Parish to blockade Brookfield Street from �
FlorencE; Street to Syble Street during certain hours on �he o ccas�on of
a churc�i bazaar to be held in August was considered by the Board. The i
Clerk �vfis instructed to notify t he Street Depart�ent concerning the pro-
posed b:.ockade.

The Boai�d approved tne appointr,sent o f Gustin D. Jaqua, 1022 S. 32nd Street
to serv� as a special police officer for �vork at Pla.yland Park and the ;
Univers ty of Notre Dame. j

Bonds, z�rith the Columbia Casualty Company as surety, �vere approved for
the fol7.owing police�en: Paul I�TeCarroll, Robert rlatt and Ernest F.Busch.

Chief Ir�ram was authorized by the Board to attend the Indiana Association �
of Chie1's of Police Convention to be held at French Lick on June 13-15,1939,

Police c�fficer Levi tlulf was called before the Board to explain certain
alleged remarks he had made regarding the Police Depart�ent s�stem, which
remarks he denied having made, and ti�as instructed b� the Board to confine ;
lil�e rer�arks to his superior officers in the future. '

Charles Burns was present at the meeting and ma�ters pertainin� to his
departr�E�nt ivere discussed. T:�r. Burns submitted his regular t�reel�ly re-
�ort for� the �Neek ending June 5, 1939, shov�ing a total number of 242 j
inspections made.

carried that authorized t42r. Beamer to tal�e care of any emergencg r�at-
�! ters that require the consideration of the Board of uVorks and 3afety
