South Bend Police Department Citizen's Police Academy
How would you like to step inside our S.W.A.T. truck like you see on
television—or examine a fingerprint under a microscope in our CSI laboratory?
And the newest class addition presents the Child Dangers of the Internet and
Computer & TechnoloAy Crime Overview.
The South Bend Police Department is now accepting applications for the first
Citizen's Police Academy in 2007. This will be the 26th academy session of
educational classes offered to the public to promote an understanding and awareness
of the duties and responsibilities of the South Bend Police Department. The next
scheduled academy will run for 13 weeks, starting March 13t` and ending on June 5,
2007. All classes are on Tuesday evenings from 6:00-8:30 p.m. And it's free!
General class topics include the department's community policing efforts,
future plans, and an overview of the organization. The in-depth class participation
includes interaction with officers from patrol, investigative, and communications
areas. In addition, there will be several hands-on scenarios involving specialty unit
demonstrations from the K-9, SWAT, and the Bomb Disposal Unit. Upon graduation,
participants are also available to ride with an officer to see the patrol functions from a
first-hand view.
If you are a citizen who lives or works around South Bend and have ever had a
question about the police department and would like to get feedback in a comfortable
