MAYOR OFFERS EXTRA CALL-IN LEAF PICKUP
The City of South Bend announced that Mayor Steve Luecke has approved an additional
week of loose leaf pickup, on a call-in basis, Tuesday, Dec. 5 through Thursday, Dec. 7, 2006.
The City is providing the extra week so that residents have another opportunity to take advantage
of the great weather and dispose of their leaves before leaf equipment is converted for snow
removal. Residents may call the Bureau of Streets at 235-9244 for pickup.
As of this week, crews have collected over 61,000 cubic yards of leaves, and expect to
collect another 10-15,000 through next week. All leaves will be recycled at the Organic
Resources Facility, keeping them from our landfill and generating organic mulch for spring
planting.
As always, leftover leaves may be bagged for curbside pickup by the Division of Solid
Waste. Bagged leaves will be picked up on the regularly scheduled trash collection day. Please
note that beginning Thursday,December 7, curbside pickup will continue throughout the winter,
however residents must call in for pickup. Please call the Bureau of Solid Waste at 277-8515.
