New Community Development Planner Announced
The City of South Bend's Community & Economic Development Department -
Division of Community Development has announced that Jeff Vitton has been hired as a
Planner. Jeff is assigned to the Rum Village Partnership Center and the Commercial
Corridor Brownfields efforts. He will be a liaison with the Lincoln Way West Corridor,
the Neighborhood Resources Corp., and the Rum Village Neighborhood Association,
assisting them with developing and implementing project goals and objectives, as well as
assisting with City Plan initiatives. Jeff will also assist with the administration of various
federal grants that are available for neighborhood improvements.
"Jeff's experience in planning and proactive community organizing is a perfect fit
for the City of South Bend's community building initiatives. We look forward to his
engagement of our corridors and neighborhood organizations in implementing the aspects
of City Plan that will continue to enhance the quality of life for the people of South
Bend," commented Sharon Kendall,Director of Community & Economic Development.
Jeff is a graduate of Michigan State University, with a degree in Urban and
Regional Planning. He comes to South Bend from East Lansing, Michigan where he
worked as a Research Assistant in the Urban and Regional Planning Program at Michigan
State University. In his position,Jeff was involved in gathering and analyzing data
relative to community and economic development. During his college career Jeff was
awarded two scholarships through the Urban &Regional Planning Program for merit-
based academic performance, and was involved in mobilizing community development
efforts in urban neighborhoods as a member of Americorps,National Civilian
Community Corps. Jeff also is a member in the American Planning Association.

Director of Community Development. "Jeff's varied work and community experiences in
urban planning will serve the Department and South Bend well, as we continue in
partnership with our commercial corridors and neighborhood leaders."
