Huey Street. The Center was relocated from 1145 N. Olive Street,where it served the neighborhood since its opening in 1999. The new location is a $44,000 renovation project of the Neighborhood Resources Corporation in partnership with LaSalle Area Neighborhood Association (LANA) and the City's Neighborhood Partnership Center program. "The new location will provide incentive for investment in a different area of the neighborhood, renovate another property, and encourage additional resident involvement," stated Sharon Kendall, Executive Director for Community & Economic Development. The Neighborhood Partnership Center program was created in 1993 by the City of South Bend as part of the Good Neighbors Good Neighborhoods initiative. Neighborhood Partnership Centers are physical facilities used by City departments,neighborhood organizations, area residents, and social service providers to offer programs and provide services of interest to a neighborhood. Each Center also serves as an information source for area residents. Mayor Stephen I Luecke has commented, "The Neighborhood Partnership Program reflects the City of South Bend's commitment to invest in its neighborhoods. Through building working relationships between the City, the Neighborhood Resource Corporation, neighborhood residents and community organizations,we can strategically catalyze growth and neighborhood improvements." Luci Spaulding,LaSalle Neighborhood Partnership Center Committee Chair, and Susan Adamek,LaSalle Area NPC Coordinator,have been instrumental in informing residents about the relocation of the Partnership Center. "The residents serving on the LaSalle NPC Committee felt a strong desire to relocate to Huey Street to begin work as an agent for positive change and to provide opportunities for resident empowerment," said Ms. Spaulding. "All neighborhood residents we've spoken with are excited about this program." The NPC Program seeks to move the Centers to a new location approximately every three to five years. "This move to Huey street marks the beginning of new substantial public investment in this neighborhood," Council woman Charlotte Pfeifer remarked.
