South Bend Westside Memorial Day Parade Honors Veterans
The annual Westside Memorial Day Parade, honoring all veterans, will be held on
Monday, May 29, 2006. The parade is scheduled to begin at 8:15 AM at the corner of
Ford and Olive Streets and will then proceed west on Ford Street ending at Summit
Drive. The Reviewing Stand will be located in front of Navarre Intermediate Center.
The theme for this year's parade is "Then,Now &Forever". According to this
year's parade marshal Sgt. Michael Critchlow of the South Bend Police Department, `eve
are pleased to announce that there are 95 units participating this year compared to 72 last
year. The participating units represent the rich cultural diversity of our community."
Wayne Zakrewski, chairman of the event,noted, "there has been excellent participation
by volunteers serving on committees and working hard along with our American Legion
Post 357, in an effort to make this parade a memorable event. Everyone is excited!"
"The annual Westside Memorial Day parade has been a part of our history and a
source of Hometown Pride for many years", stated Mayor Luecke. "To be able to
continue this parade and to honor all of those who serve and have served our country and
our community is a tribute to the residents of this City. Thanks to everyone who joined
in to ensure that this event continues."
