South Bend's Spring Releaf Program Extended;
Regular Yard Waste Program Begins
Mayor Luecke has extended South Bend's spring leaf collection through Friday, April 14,
to assist residents with Spring Cleanup around the City. Spring Releaf is operated on a call-in
basis and crews have been busy collecting loose leaves daily. South Bend residents are
encouraged to take advantage of the beautiful weather to get the last of their leaves to the curb.
This will be the last week of loose leaf pickup, so that street crews can prepare for the paving
season. Residents are asked to please call the Bureau of Streets at 235-9244 to request a pickup.
After April 14,residents are asked to bag their leaves.
The City will begin its automatic Yard Waste program offered through the Bureau of
Solid Waste on Monday, April 10. Each week, residents may place their bagged or bundled yard
waste at the curb on their normal trash collection day for pickup. No call-in will be necessary for
yard waste pickup. Residents are asked to follow these guidelines for yard waste pickup:
1. Yard waste and brush must be bagged or bundled(no more than 4 feet in length or 4 inches in
diameter).
2. Please use suitable containers (30 gallon trash container or smaller) - do not place yard
waste in City automated trash containers.
3. As always, please place yard waste at the curb and separate from trash and debris.
4. Do not place yard waste in the alleys.
South Bend's yard waste is recycled at the City's Organic Resources Facility, diverting
this material from our community's landfill and providing quality mulch for reuse. City residents
can reap the rewards of their efforts by going to Organic Resources to pick up high quality mulch
2
and compost for free if you self-load, or at a minimal sliding scale fee if you request assistance
with loading. Organic Resources is located at 4340 Trade Drive, off of Nimtz Parkway just 1/4
mile west of Bendix Drive. Organic Resources is open 8:00 AM to 3:45 PM, Monday through
Friday. Please call 287-6841 for more information.
If you have questions regarding Spring Releaf, please call the Street Department at 235-9244.
