CITY OFFERS SPRING RELEAF
AND YARD WASTE PICKUP
As part of its Clean City initiative,the City of South Bend is again offering its Spring
ReLeaf program, for two weeks only, Monday,March 27 through Thursday, April 6. All
residents are encouraged to rake their loose leaves to the curb, and call the Bureau of Streets for
pickup, at 235-9244. To conserve fuel and to keep down costs for labor and vehicle
maintenance, loose leaf pickup will be available on a call-in basis only.
Bagged leaves and bagged or bundled yard waste pickup is available now, also on a call-
in basis, until April 6. Please place bagged or bundled yard waste at the curb, and call the
Bureau of Solid Waste at 277-8823 for pickup.
NOTE: Residents are reminded that in order to protect our air quality,burning of leaves
is completely prohibited in the City of South Bend and is a violation of City ordinance.
South Bend's yard waste is recycled at the City's Organic Resources Facility, thereby
diverting this material from our community's landfill and providing quality mulch for reuse.
City residents can reap the rewards of their efforts by going to Organic Resources to pick up high
quality mulch and compost for free if you self-load, or at a minimal sliding scale fee if you
request assistance with loading. Organic Resources is located at 4340 Trade Drive, off of Nimtz

SPRING LEAF & YARD WASTE PICKUP GUIDELINES
Suring ReLeaf
CALL-IN ONLY for two weeks, Monday,March 27 through Thursday, April 6, 2006. Call
235-9244 for pickup of loose leaves raked to the curb.
Please follow these guidelines for loose-leaf pickup_
1. Do not contaminate leaf piles with debris (sticks, trash, etc.). Street crews are unable
to collect these piles with vacuum trucks. It will be the owner's responsibility to
dispose of contaminated piles.
2. Do not rake leaves into the street. Avoid parking in front of leaf piles to allow access
for pick-up.
3. Please, do not allow children to play in leaf piles near the curb.
4. There will be no leaf pick-up in alleys.
Yard Waste Program
Until April 6 - The Bureau of Solid Waste is collecting bagged or bundled yard waste on a
call-in basis only. For yard waste pickup, Please call 277-8823.
Please follow these guidelines for the Yard Waste Program_
1. Yard waste and brush must be bagged or bundled (no more than 4 feet in length or 6
inches in diameter).
2. Please use suitable containers (30 gallon trash container or smaller) - do not place
yard waste in City automated trash containers.
3. As always, please place yard waste at the curb and separate from trash and debris.
4. Do not place yard waste in the alleys.
