Luecke, Mayor RELEASE FROM: FOR RELEASE: MAYOR STEVE LUECKE'S OFFICE FRIDAY, JANUARY 14, 2005 Emergency Pothole Patching This Weekend The City of South Bend has announced that Division of Streets crews will be working 20 hours per day today, Saturday and Sunday in a major effort to fill potholes along main arterial streets, throughout the city, for the safety of motorists. Sam Hensley, Director of the Division of Streets reports that "supervisors have identified many new potholes has a result of this week's fluctuating high and low temperatures." "Crews will be working all weekend using the City's newest "Hot Boxes" to fill potholes with heated asphalt which is more effective in filling and stabilizing potholes,"said Hensley. As soon as the main arterial streets are patched, crews will move to residential streets. Residential streets repairs will definitely begin Monday morning and continue all week, weather permitting. Crews have been working on pothole patching, on daily basis, since the first of the year as the weather allowed. Due to the current conditions, motorists are asked to slow down and to use caution in order to avoid accidents or damage to their vehicles. As a result of the shift to potholes repairs, Division of Streets crews have temporarily discontinued collection of discarded Christmas trees. Christmas tree collection will resume next week with crews making one final sweep of the City.
