Luecke, Mayor RELEASE FROM: FOR RELEASE: OFFICE OF THE MAYOR MONDAY, JANUARY 24, 2004 Final Week for Christmas Tree Pickup in South Bend The City of South Bend will collect discarded Christmas trees for one last week, today through Friday, January 28, 2005. Residents are asked to call the Street Department at 235-9244 by Friday to request a Christmas tree pickup. All trees should be placed on the tree lawn, near the curb, by 6:00 AM. Do not place trees in the street or in alleys.Tree pickup was suspended last week for snow removal. Please be sure to remove tree stands, nails, lights and ornaments before discarding Christmas trees. Metal left in the trees can injure an employee or seriously damage the tree shredding equipment and leave it inoperable. Any trees containing metal or other items will not be picked up. The Bureau of Solid Waste also provides yard waste pickup on a call-in basis during the winter. South Bend residents may call 277-8515 to request a yard waste pickup.
