Luecke, Mayor RELEASE FROM: FOR RELEASE: Office of the Mayor Monday, May 9, 2005 Erskine Commons Project Moves Forward Anchor Properties has notified the City of South Bend that final site acquisition has been completed for their new retail center, on approximately 56 acres, at US 31/US 20 and Ireland Road. Matt Grever, Vice President of Acquisitions and Development for Anchor Properties, confirmed that the final sale has been concluded and anticipates a formal groundbreaking and the start of site preparation within the next two weeks. "We couldn't have done it without the support of a great team from the City, the County, and the State of Indiana and their'roll up your sleeves' attitude to finalize this very complicated transaction," noted Grever. "This is a great project for South Bend and continues the momentum growing on the south side of the City," said Mayor Luecke. "We appreciate the efforts and the diligence that Anchor Properties demonstrated in keeping this project moving forward and their sensitivity to local interests as well as environmental awareness. This is a win-win development in that it not only provides our residents with new choices and opportunities, it also remediates an abandoned brownfield site and returns it to active use." Erskine Commons is a 425,000+ sf retail center that will have immediate access and visibility from the US 20 Bypass and US 31, and will be anchored by a 203,000 sf Wal-Mart Supercenter and a 116,000 sf Lowe's Home Improvement Store. Up to 78,000 square feet of retail space will be available adjacent to Wal-Mart along West Ireland Road and seven (7) parcels will be available along West Ireland and South Michigan Street for restaurants,financial institutions and neighborhood retail uses.
