Luecke, Mayor RELEASE FROM: FOR RELEASE: Office of the Mayor Monday, September 20, 2005 City of South Bend Hosts 2nd Annual Safety Fair Mayor Stephen J. Luecke announces the second annual City of South Bend Safety Fair, to be held on Monday, October 10, 2005, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00p.m., at Union Station across from Coveleski Stadium. The City of South Bend has made safety a first priority for its workforce and expanded its efforts in 2004 to increase safety awareness in the community. The event will focus on a wide spectrum of safety issues for all ages. The theme for this year's Safety Fair is "What's all the Buzz About?Be Alert, Be Safe, Be Careful, Be Aware, Because We Care!" There will be booths, speakers and live demonstrations including the South Bend Police Department's Safetyville,the South Bend Fire Department's Safety House,Health Works Hummer and Memorial Hospital health safety education. Special guest appearances by Ronald McDonald, Silver Hawks Swoop,Vince and Larry the Crash Dummies, and others, will be on hand to greet visitors. The United Way Hot Dog Sale Fundraiser will also take place. In addition to safety information for families and children,booths and speakers will address safety and security issues for senior citizens and neighborhoods, traffic and construction zones, safety driving, including information on roundabouts and City funding for safe neighborhood lighting and sidewalks. The Safety Fair is presented by the City of South Bend's Safety Committee,which was established in 2002 by Mayor Luecke to provide safety training to City employees that could be used at work and at home.
