Luecke, Mayor RELEASE FROM: FOR RELEASE: Office of the Mayor Friday, October 7, 2005 Promoting Safety in South Bend What's all the Buzz About? It is about the City of South Bend's 2nd annual Safety Fair, which will be taking place on Monday, October 10, 2005 from 10 A.M. to 6 P.M. at the Union Station, across from the Coveleski Stadium. The Safety Fair with its theme "Be Alert, Be Safe, Be Careful, Be Aware, Because We Care", promotes safety awareness in the community. "We are committed to educating our employees and residents on safe practices and procedures, while keeping our city safe, and a great place to live," stated Mayor Luecke. f III Mn W r SdfNe LNee Ne The Safety Fair is coordinated by the City of South Bend's Safety Committee, which was established in 2002 by Mayor Stephen J. Luecke as one of his Safe City initiatives, to provide safety training to City employees. In 2004, the City wanted to expand the Fair to reach out to all residents to create a greater awareness of safe practices and procedures, in our homes, on ourjobs, and in our community. There will be over 30 booths representing agencies and organizations that address safety and security issues, speakers and hands-on demonstrations, something of interest for every age group. "The goal of the City of South Bend's Safety & Risk Management Division is to provide an increased level of safety awareness throughout all City departments and the community", according to Sharon McBride, Safety & Risk Manager. In 2004, city employee injury claims and worker's compensation were reduced. A Disaster Recovery Plan has been developed for our community, and safety training for city employees continues to be a top priority for City departments.
