Bids were received, opened and read for pavement on Cottage Grove Avenue from Michigan Avenue to Portage Avenue, under Improvement Resolution No. 335. The same were referred to the City Civil Engineer for tabulation to be reported back t'o the Board at 7:45 P.M. this 9th., day of September,1914. I+17r. R. W. Bingham, Representing the Welsba.ch Street Lighting Conpany of /America, with Mr. I. S. Romig Attorney, appeared before the Board in regard to a contract for the placing of gas lights in the City. The Board decided to take the above matter under co-Zsideration. Petition filed with the Board for a pipe sewer on Indana Avenue from Marine Street to Miami Street. The Board ordered that a resolution be prepared and. r/ the same set for a hearing. Remonstrance filed with the Board against pipe sewer on Fellows Street from Dubail Avenue to the lst. alley North of Dubail Avenue. The same was read and placed °ion file:` Board ordered that directories of the City,Lone in the Mayor's office ,And one in the Board of Public Works office be paid for out of the Miscellaneous Fund. Bond and c�,ntract for the water connections on Sherman Avenue from Michigan Avenue to Oak Street, under Imp m vement Resolution No. 3,44. signed by Wm. H. Burke as principal and Jno. E. Hearing had on assessment roll end f iiis l estimate- for Concrete_ -Pavement on the lst. alley West of Fain Street from Marion Street to Navarre Street, -under Imp- rovement Resolution No. 305. In the City of South Bend, Indiana. In the above matter no remonstrators appeared and no remonstrances were filed. The Board therefore find that the property assessed in said roll filed August llth.,1914 is benefitted in the amount of assessments as'shown, on said rolls, and the Board further find that the assessment roll Filed August llth'. ,1914 and the final estimate allowed August llth.,1914 should be and the same are hereby in a-11 'things ratified, confirmed and approved JHearing had on assessment roll and final estimate for pipe.sewer on Talbot Avenue from South Bend Avenue to Howard Street, under Improvement Resolution No. 319. In the City of South Bend, Indiana. In the above matter a remonstrators appeared remonstrating against assess- ments on Lot 50 Talbot Plat Addition, but no written remonstran ces v.ere heard.. The same was considered by the Board and the decided to modify Said assessment roll to read as follows:- That one half (1/2) of the read of Lot 50 Talbot Plat Addition fronting on Talbot Avenue be assessed, the balance to be apportioned over the other assessments(as shown on corrected roll in red) and the Board further find that the final estimate allowed August 11th.21914 should be and the same are hereby in all things ratified, confirmed and approved. r Hearing had on assessment roll and final estimate for resurfacing of Sbtth Lafayette Street from Sample Street to 281-1/2 ft. north of Tutt Street, under Improvement Resolution No. 319. In the City of South Bend, Indiana. In the above matter no remonstrators appeared and no remonstrances were filed. The Board therefore find that the property assessed in said roll tiled August llth.,1914 is benefitte.d in the amount of assessments as shown on said roll and the Board further find that the assessments roll f' led August llth. 21914 and the final estimate allowed August llth.,1914 should be and the same are hereby in all things ratified, confirmed and approved. Deferred hearing given on Co Wemnation Resolution No. 34 for the purpose of appropriating a strip of land for the widening of Terrace Avenue from Portasze Avenue to Woodward Avenue. In the City of South Bend, Indiana. In the above matter Mr. Vitous Jones, Attorney appeared before the Board in the interest of property holders and remonstrated against the said appro- priation, but no written remonstrance was filed. In the above matter Mr. E. M. Morris and Mr. A. Tf. Rice voted for said appropriation and Mr. John B. Weber against same. The Board being fully advised in the matter takes final action on said resolution, confirming without modification, all former action 'taken on the same. The Board therefore declares the above property in all things con- demned and appropriated for public use, theynow orders that a list or roll be prepared of all the owners or holders of property and ol' valuable interests therein sought to be taken or to be injuriously affected, which said list or roll shall also describe the property beneficially affected. The Board made the preliminary award of the contract for the paving of Cottage Grove Avenue from Michigan Avenue to Portage Avenue, under Improvement Resolution No. 335, with Asphalt for the amount of $1.59 per sq. yd. to Rankert & Eggleston Contractors. The final award to be made on or after Saturday September 19th.,1914 at 10:00 A.M. Bond and contract for Brick pavement on Sherman Avenue from Michigan Avenue to South end og said Street (or Oak Street) under Improvement JResolution No. 301. signed by Harry N. Barnes es principal and The London Lancashire Guarantee and Accident Co. was approved by the Board. Bond and contract for pavement on the lst. a_Iley north of LaSalle ✓ Avenue from Main Street to Lafayette Street, also lst. lley west of Fain Street from La Salle Avenue to Madison Street, under Improvement Resolution No. 322, signed by Harry N. Barnes as principal and The London & Lancashire Guarantee and;Aceident Company as. sureties, was approved by the Board. Mr. W. E. Bryan, Mgr. of the. South Billposting Company was present f before the Board. The Board regyested Mr. Bryan to have billboard at the corner of Vistula, Avenue and Ernsper.�er Street moved back far enough so as to relief the dangerous condition &s it now stands , to'the travelirie,; public. Ar.. Se i f'e rt , Councilman, appeared before the Board, requesting the Board to open an alley between Notre Dame Avenue and St. Peter. Street from Corby Street to Howard Street. The Board adopted the following resolution.,_. CONDEMNATION RESOLUTION NO. 36. Resolved by the Board. of Public Works of the City of South Bend, Indiana, Triat"'the following described property be appropriated for the use of said City: Begin— ning at a point on the north line of Corby Street 126 Feet east of the east line of St. Peter Street_;. thence northerly on a straight line to a, point on the south Line of Howard Street 119.45 feet east of the east line of St. Peter Street; thence east 14 feet; thence on a straight line to a point on the north line of Corby Street 14 feet east of beginning; thence west 14 feet to the place of beginning. Begin a strip of land 7 feet on each side of the northerly and southerly center line of block bounded by St. Peter Street; Howard Street, Notre Dame Avenue and Corby Street. Excepting therefrom the First East and !Nest Alley north of Corby Street which is already a Public Thorough— fare. The follov.3ng described property may be injuriously or beneficially af— fected by such appropriation: Beginning at the intersection of tbe north line of Corby Street; and the east line of St. Peter Street; thence north on the east line of St-' Peter Street to the south line of =Toward Street; thence east on the south line of Howard Street to the west line of Notre Dame Avenue; thence south on the west line of Notre game Avenue to the north -line of Corby Street; thence west on -the north line of Corby Street to the place of beginning. The purpose of such appropriation is the opening of an alley between Notre Dame Avenue and St. Peter Street from Corby Street to Howard Street. Notice 4 tnis resolution shall be published on the 12th., day of September,1914_and on the 19th., day of September .1914 in the South Bend Daily News — Times. This Board, at its office in the City Hall on the 6th., day of October 1914 at 7:45 P.M. will hear and receive remonstrances from all persons interested in or affected by these proceedings. Adopted this 9th., day of September,1914 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS. ORDER SELECTING KIIiD OF PAVEMENT. Concerning the improvement of the roadway of Cottage Grove Avenue from Jlichigan Avenue to Portage Avenue, in pursuance of Improvement Resolution 335 ,1914, the ?reliminary order gor the improvement heretofore adopted is hereby confirmed. The Board now orders that so much of the said street is improved with Asphalt and awardes the contract to Rankert & Eggleston they being the lowest and,best bidders. BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS. E. M.
