AN ORDINANCE OF THE COMMON COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA,
AMENDING ORDINANCE N0. 8623-95 OF THE COMMON COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, FIXING MAXIMUM SALARIES OF
APPOINTED OFFICERS AND NON-BARGAINING EMPLOYEES
OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA FOR CALENDAR YEARS 1996, 1997
AND 1998
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT
The Common Council of the City of South Bend,
Indiana, adopted its Ordinance No. 8623-95 on September 25, 1995,
which ordinance established the annual compensation for all non-
bargaining employee positions with the City of South Bend, for
calendar years 1996 through 1998, inclusive. Ordinance No. 8623-95
was subsequently amended by Ordinance Nos. 8649-95 and 8720-96 to
make certain technical corrections. The Common Council has
determined that it is required that Ordinance No. 8623-95, as
amended, be further amended to adjust the 1997 and 1998 salaries of
certain positions, and to establish hourly rates of pay that
correspond to the annual compensation for these positions.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, as follows:
SECTION I . Section I of Ordinance No. 8623-95, as
amended by Ordinance Nos . 8649-95 and 8720-96 shall be and hereby
is amended to adjust the annual compensation for the following non-
bargaining employee positions in calendar years 1997 and 1998 :

SECTION II . Section I (b) of Ordinance No. 8623-95, as
amended by Ordinance No. 8720-96, shall be and hereby is amended to
set forth a schedule of the hourly rate of pay for each position in

Years 1996, 1997, and 1998
Dear Mr. Kelly:
I am attaching for filing the above-referenced ordinance which
amends the non-bargaining employee salary ordinance adopted and
then amended by the Common Council in 1995 . The proposed
amendments to the non-bargaining employee salary ordinance adds
certain positions that currently do not exist, deletes positions
that are no longer needed, and adjusts the salaries of certain
employee positions . Those changes are being requested as a result
of the restructuring of the duties within the Department of
Administration and Finance.
