Communication received from the Safety Board in regard to repairs for ✓ Hose Houses. The same was read and filed and to be takan,up Tuesday August 4th.,1914 with the Committee of the Whole meeting for an appropriation for the same. The Board approved of a bill presented by Rankert & Eggleston,,, Contractors for 34 dq. yds of Asphalt surface at the corner of Colfax& Fain Streets @ $1.50 per sq. yd. amount ing to $51.00 and ordered the same paid out of the Street and alley Dept., - Permission granted the Ind. & Mich. Elec. Co. to set poles as follows: — To set a guy stub on the east snide of Adams St. on the property line 95'' south of Orange Street. This is to replace a broken guy stub at the,sameplace. Communication received from the Chicago, Lake ,Shore & South Bend Ry. Co. in Jregard to the new planking placed on their cvvssir..gs at Michigan Avenue and Chain Lake Road. The same was placed on file. Remonstrance was presented to the Board against; a_ pavement on Eullid. Avenue ✓ from ha Porte Avenue to Brick Avenue. The same was read and placed on file. Engineer filed assessment roll and final estimate for grade, curb and walk on North side of Calvert Street from Leer Street to Kline Street, under Improve— Resolutio-i. No. 317. In the City of South Bend, Indiana. Resolved, that notices as to the amounts of assessments be published for six consecutive days in the South Bend Daily Tribune, commencing on August 3rd.,1914 stating that this Board will give a hearing on the amount of such assessment at its office in the City Hall on the 25th., day of August',1914- at 7:45 P.M. Resolved further, that the entire work under the above contract be ac— cepted and approved and the final estimate thereon allowed. Notice of this resolu— tion shall be published on the 3rd., day of August,1914 in the South Bend Daily Tribune, stating that this Board will give a hearing on the acceptance of such work at its office in the City Hall on the 25th., day of August,1914 at 7:45 P.M. 4 2 .q Friday July 31st.,1914. Continued. LOCAL SEWER IMPROVEMENT RESOLUTION NO. 339- Resolved by the Board of Public Works of the City of South Bend, County of St. Joseph, State of Indiana. That the construction of a local sewer, in— tended and adapted only for local use by the property holders whose property abuts thereon, and not intended or adapted for re ceiving sewerage from collateral drains, be and the same is, hereby ordered in and along Lafayette Street and Marion Street from a point 100 feet north of the north line of Navarre Street to a port 100 ^feet west of the west line line of Lafayette Streetviz:— Beginning on the center line of Lafayette Street at a point approximately 100 feet north of the north line of Navarre Street; thence south along the center line of Lafayette Street to the center of Marion Street with a 15 inch vitrified pipe sewer, thence west on the center line of Marion Street to a point approximately 100 feet west of the west line of Lafayette Street with a 15 inch vitrified pipe sewer. Together with the necessary manholes, inlets conduits , nd house connections to the curb line along the line of said improvement. All as shomn on the plans, and in accordance with the pro— files, detail drawings and sPecifications on file in the office of the Department of Public Works of the City of -South Bend, Indianan and said sewer, with all its appur— tenances shall -be constructed in accordance with the profiles and specifications now on file in the office of the Department of Public Works of said City. The cost of said im— provement , shall be apportioned against and paid by the property holders those property abuts thereon, and upon the, City of South Bend if the City is benefited by said improve— ment, all according to..the method and manner provided for in Act of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana, entitled,"An Act Concerning Munciicpal Corporations," approved March 6,1905. Assessments, if defe rred, are to be paid in ten equal annual installments with interest at the rate of Six per cent per annum. A bond or bonds shall be issued to the c ntractor in payment for such work, unless the property owners pay said assess— ments before said bond or bonds are issued. Under no circumstances shall the City of SouthA Bed be or be held responsible for any sum or sums due from said property'howner;7 or owners for said work, or for the collection of same, or for the payment of any bond, or bonds, certificate or certificates, issued to said contractor in payment for such work, except for such moneys as shall have been actually received by the City from the assessments for such improvement, or such moneys as said City is by said above entitled Act required to pay. All proceeding s had, and work done in the making of said improve— ment, assessment of property, collection of assessments and issuance of bonds therefor, shall be 'as provided for in said above entitled Act. Notice of this resolution shall be published on the 1st. day of August, 1914 and on the £nth., day of Au gust,1914 in the South Bend Daily Tribune. This Board will give a hearing on this resolution at its office in the City Hall on the 25th., day of August,1914 at 7:45 P.M. Adopted this 31st., day of July,1914 BOARD.OF.PUBLIC WORKS President.
