Board met in regular session at 10:00 A.M. Mr. A. H. ,Rice, , absent.
Bids were received, opened and read for the pipe sewer on Indiana Avenue from
f Leer h:Street to Marine Street under IMp roveme nt Resolution No. 325. The same were
referred to the. City Engineer for tabulati,on'to be ,reported back to the Board at 7:45
P.M. of this date.
Bids were received opened and read for pipe sewer on Blaine. Avenue and Terrace
Avenue from Woodward Avenue to Vassar Avenue, under IMprovement "Resolution No. 323. The
vame was read and referred to the City Engineer for tabulation to be reported on at
7:45 P.M. Of this date.
Bond and contract for pipe sewer on Broadway and High Street under_ Improvement
Oesolution No 320, signed by Hoban and Roach as -principal and American Surety Company
of New York, was approved by the Board.
Bond and contract for pipe sewer on Donald Street from .Witwer Avenue to Mich.
St. under improvement Resolution No. 3P1.. signed by Staples and Ackerman asprincipal
and American Surety Company of New'York as surety, was approved by the Board.
The Engineer filed the following reports on the estimated cost of improvements.
I herewith submit the estimated cost of the pipe sewer on Dubail Avenue from

I herewith submit the estimated cost of the pavement improvement do the First
,/ Alley north of Washington Avenue from Walnut Street. to Studebaker Street at ..... $1,296.00
I herewith submit the estimated cost of the pipe sewer improvement in Pulaski
Street from Division Street to Ford Street at................................$3,079.70
I herewith submit the estimated cost of the pipe sewer improvement in Calvert
✓ Street from the Bowman Creek Trunk sewer to Witwer Avenue at ................$3,923.70
Petition filed with the Board for a pa vement on Euclid Avena.e from Le Porte
Avenue to Brick Avenue. The same was read and referred to the City Engineer for investi—
gation.
The City Enginneer filed the following reports on petitions.
Regarding the petition of 0. D. Hughes et al for the construction of sewer on
Kline Street. I recommend that the petition be granted. The Board ordered a resolution
prepared on the same and set for a hearing.
Regarding the petition of W. J. Scott et al for pavement of Johnson St. from
Michigan Avenue to Vassar Ave. I recommend tha-i, the petition be granted. Street and
alley intersect ons are estimated at $300.00 The Board ordered a resolution prepared on
same and set for a hearing.
Regarding the petition of Chas. E. Singler et al for the opening of alley^West of
Notre Dame Avenue from Corby Street to City Limits. I recommend the petition. be granted.
V/ The Board ordered a resolution prepared and set for a hearing.
Regarding the attached petition of Chas. Weidler for gradeand walk on Donald
JStreet. I recommend that the walk be granted. The Board ordered a resolution prepared
on same and set for a hearing.
Communication received read and placed on file from the South Bend Young Men's
Chamber of Commerce in regard to letting of the heating contract to the Indiana and
Michigan Electric Company.

The following communication was filed with the Board with a blue print attached of
the proposed team track changes on the Michigan Central Ry. at Emerick Street in this
J City.

/ Permission granted the Indiana & Michigan Electric Company to set the follwoin g
poles:
To set a line of poles on the west side of Carroll St. as far north as
Fox Street then west on the south side of Fox Street to Michigan Street; thence' west
✓ on south side of Donald St. to the E. side of Main Street.
To set thnfpolwd.temporarily and to string in lines in order to move
our wires and poles from the south side of Etagg Avenue. o make room for the derrick
of the Stewart Sheets Construction Company while putting in the sewer on Ewing Ave.
The same to be re Moved as soon as the sewer is finished.
Engineer filed assessment poll and final estimate for pipe sewer on Iroquos
J Street and Alley North of North Shore Drive, from St. Joseph River to Angella Ave.
and Lafayette Street, und: r Improvement Resolution No.. 239. In the City of South Bend,
Indiana.
Resolved ,that notices as to the amounts of assessments be published
on the 31st day of July,1914 and the 7th., day of August,1914 in the South Bend Daily
Tribune, stating that this Board wil give a hearmgg on the amount of such asess—
ments at its office in the City Hall o n the l8th., day of August,1914 at 7:45 P.M.
Resolved further, that the entire work under the above contracts be ac�-.
cepted and approved and the final estimate thereon allowed. Notice of this resolution
shall be publishedI on the 31st., day of 3uly,1914 and on the 7th., day of August,
1914 in the South Bend Daily Tribune, stating that this Board will give a hearing
on the acceptance of such work at its office in the City Hall on the 19th., day of
August,1914 at 7:45 P.M.

Parkovash Avenue from Iroquois Street o Lafayette Street, under Improvement Resolution
No. 259. In the City of South Bend, Indiana.
Resolved , that notices as to the amounts of assessments he published
on the 31st., day of Julya1914 and on the 7th., day of August,1914 in the South Bend
Dail: •,Tribuneo -, stating that this Board will give a hearing on the amount of such
assessments at its office in the City Hall on the 18th., day of August,1914 at 7:45
P.M.
Resolved further, that the entire work under the above contracts be
accepted and approved and the final estimate thereon allowed. Notice of this
resolution shall be published on the 31st., day of July21914 and on the 7th., day of
August,1914 in the South -Bend Tribuna•, stating that this Board will give a hearing on
the acceptance of such work at its office in the City Hall on the 19th., day of August,

CONDEMNATION RESOLUTION NO. 34.
Resolved by the Board of Public Works of the City of South Bend, Indiana :That
the Following described property be appropriated. —for the use of said City; Beginning at the
intersection of the easterly line of Portage Avenue and the northerly line of Terrace
Ave me; thence easterly on the northerly line of Terrace Avenue to the westerly line of
Woodward Avenue; thence northerly on the westerly line of Woodward Avenue 10 feet; thence
westerly parallel to and 10 feet north westerly from the northerly line of Terrace Avenue
to the easterly line of Portage Avenue; thence south easterly on the easterly -line of
Portage Avenue ten feet to the place of beginning.
The following described property m,,y be injuriously or beneficially affected
by such appropriation**
Beginning at the intersection of the center line of Portage Avenue
and the center of the right—of—way of the Chicago, Indiana and Southern Railway Co; thence
north easterly and east with the center line of the right of way of said railway to the
St. Joseph River; .thence up stream v.7ith the St. Joseph River to a point opposite the cen-
ter of Hudson Avenue;, thence west on the center of Hudson Avenue to the center of Woodward
Avenue; thence northwesterly on the center line of Woodward Avenue to a point opposite the
center of alley between lots 119 and 120 Portage Park Addition; thence westerly on the
center line of said alley to the center of Portage Avenue; thence- north westerly on the
center of Portage Avenue to the place of beginning.
The purpose of such appropriation is WIDENING TERRACE AVENUE FROM PORTAGE
AVENUE TO WOODWARD AVENUE.
Notice of this resolution shall be published on the 31st. day of July,1914
and on the 7th., day of August,1914 in the South Bend Daily Tribune.
This Board, at its office in the City Hall on the 25th., day of August,1914
at 7:45 P.M. will hear and receive remonstrances from all persons interested in or affected
by these proceedings.

Hearing given on Opening and extension of South Scott Street From Sample
JStreet to South line of T.H.&L.R.R. 'under=.�Con.demnation Resolution No 33. In the .City
of South Bend, Indiana.
In the c bove matter remonstrators appeared, but no written. remonstrance
was filed. The remonstrators bein.G in the ma joirty, the Board after rue condieration
decided that the above mentioned resolution should be and the same is hereby and in
all things rescinded.
/ Hearing given on improvement Resolution No, 329 for the pipe sewer` on Yukon
✓ Avenue from Portage Avernie to Riverside Drive„.in the City of South Bend, Indiana.
Upon said hearing no remonstrators appeared and no remonstrances were filed
And the Board being fully advised in the premsis, decides that the beneits to,;pro-
perty liable to be assessed for said improvements are equal to the estimated cost
of the same, as reported by the City Civil Engineer, and thereupon takes final action
on said resolution as originally adopted, and the same is hereby in all things bati-
fied, confirmed and approved.
Resolved further, that notices be published on the ?1st. day of July,1914
and on the 7th., day of August,1914 in a newspaper of general circulation in said CitW
stating that this Board will receive bids for the construction of said improvements
up to 10:00 A.M. on the 18th., day of August,1914. The Board reserves the right to
reject any or all bids.

mate allowed July 7th.,1914 should be and the same is hereby in all things rati-
fied, confirmed and approved.

In the above matter no remonstrators appeared and no remonstrances
were filed. The Board therefore find that the property assessed in said roll filed
July 7th., 1914 is benefitted in the amount of assessments as shown on said rolls
and the Board further find that the assessment roll filed July 7th.,1914 abd the final
estimate allowed July 7th.,1914 should be and the same are hereby in all things,
ratified, confirmed and approved.

In the above matter remonstrators appeared, but no written remonstran ce
was filed. The Board find that the property mentioned in said rolls are benefited and
damaged respectively as shown on said roll and said roll is hereby in all things ratified,
confirmed and approved and all action under Condemnation Resolution No. 29 is hereby con—
cluded.

The following communication was presented by the Common Council to the Board and the same
was read end placed on file.

Gentlemen: —
At the regular meeting of the Common Council held on iMonday July 27th.,1914
the following motions prevailed:
MOTION BY COUNCILMAN GOEBEL, (Verbal)
I move that the Board of Public Works instruct the Street Commissioner to in—
vestigate and report as to the oiling of un—paved streets.
MOTION BY COUNCILMAN BUECH$ER (Verbal)
I move that the Board of Public works be informed that it is the wish of the
Council that a proper and fitting celebration be had at the time of the formal opening of
the new North Pumping Station.

The Board ordered a thirty day notice sent to Joseph Swzeda, Contractor on
the Grade, curb and walk improvement on Olive Street from Elwood Ave -to Keller Street under
Improvement Resolution No. 225.1914. to repair thirty two (32) blocks of cement sidewalk
within above time, or the same would be repaired by the City and they would use the
certified check or a part of same which is on file in the City Controllverts office
as per agreement with the Board on January 20th.,1914.
Petition filed with the Board for a sidewalk on south side of East Fox Street
from': Miami Street to block east of Miami Street. The same was read and referred to the City
Engineer for a resolution and a hearing ordered set on same.
The Board ordered that the Arch light at Franklin Street and South Street be
,/moved to west side of walk leading to Lake S hore Station, instead of the one at William
And South Streets as per list of changes of June llth.,1914.
