Board stet in regular session :at 10:00 A.M. All members present.
Mr. M. J. Howell appeared before the Board representing the St.
✓Joseph Heating Company in regard to a contract and agreement which was presented to
the Board. No action taken.
Bids were received, opened and• pead.for:.gurb.and walk on North side of
East Calvert Street from So. Leer Street to So. Kline Street, under Improvement Resolu-
ion No. 31.7. The same were referred to the City Civil Engineer for tabulation to be
reported back at 7:45 P.M.
Communication received from the Chicago, South Bend & Northern Indiana
✓ Ry. Company in regard to surplus dirt on East Madison Street. The same was read and
referred to the City Engineer for investigation.
Communication received from Mills Bros. with check for Fifty five ($55.00)
J Dollars for payment of their assessment on the opening and extension of Sherman Avenue.
The same was placed on file.
Communication received from H. S. Cover in regard toSouth Main Street
✓ The same was read and placed on file.
Application for a billboard on Vistula Avenue was approved by the Board.
Bond and enntract for walk and curb on Orange Street from Sadie Street
f to Olive Street, under Improvement Resolution No. 315, signed by H. N. Barnes as prini-
cipal and American Surety Company of New York as sureties, was approved by the Board.
Bond and contract for pipe sewer on Vassar Avenue from. Portage Avenue
to Riverside Drive, under Improvement Resolution No. 311, signed by L. H. Webster as
✓ principal and The London & Laneashire Guarantee and Accident Co. as sureties, was approved
by the Board.
Petition filed with the Board for a pipe sewer on Ualvert Street from
✓ Witwer Avenue to Bowman Creek Trunk sewer. ._A resolution was ordered on the same.
Petition filed with.the Board for a pipe sewer on DuBail Avenue from
f Carroll Street to 1st. alley west of Miami Street. A resolution was ordered prepared on
the same.
The following persons wereordered notified to construct sidewalks in
front of their property within thirty(30) days from date of notice or the same would be
constructed by the City,under Improvement Resolution No. 294,1914 for the construction of
sidewalks on Various Streets in the City.

Board met in regular °se'ssion at 7:45 P.M. All members present.
f Hearing given. on improvement Resolution No. 320 for the pipe sewer on
Broadway and High Street From Bowman Creek Trunk sewer to Carroll Street. In the City
of South Bend, Indiana.
Upon said hearing no remonstrators appeared and no remonstrances were filed.
And the Board being fully advised in the premises,.decides that the benefits to pro-
perty liable to be,assessed for said improvements are equal to the estimated cost of
the same, as reported by the City Civil Engineer, and thereupon takes final action
on said resolution as originally adopted, and the same is hereby in all things
ratified, confirmed and approved.
Resolved further, that notices be published on the 2nd. day dtf'July,1914
and on the 9th., day of July,1914 in a newspaper of general circulation`in said City,
stating that this Board will receive bids for the construction of said improvements
up to 10:00 A.M. on the 21st. day of July,1914. The Board reserves the right to
reject any or all bids.
Hearing had on Improvement Resolution No. 321 for the pipe sewer on Donald
f Street from Michigan Street to Witwer Avenue. In -the City of South Bend, Indiana.
Upon said hearing no remonstrators appeared and no remonstrances were filed,
And the Board being fully advised in the premises; decides that the benefits to
property liable to be assessed for said improvements are equal to the estimated cost
of the same, as -reported by the City -Civil Engineer, and thereupon takes final action
on said resolution as originally adopted, and the same is hereby inall things rati-
fied, confirmed and approved.
Resolved further, that notices be published on the 2nd. day of July,1914
and on the 9th., day of July21914 in a newspaper of general circulation in said City,
stating that this Board will receive bids for the construction of said improvements
up to 10:00 A.M. on the 21st. day of July,1914. The Board reserves the right to

The matter of a pipe sewer on Portage Avenue from No. ling of Morris Park
d Addition to No. line of Section 34 T. 39 N.R. 2 E.. was discussed with property
owners. No action taken.

J The Street Commissioner reported the planking on the Chticago,Lake Shore & South
Bend Ry. Company's crossing at Michigan Avenue -and Chain Lake Road in bad shape. The
Board ordered a thirty day notice sent to repair same.

The City Civil Engineer submitted the following estimates on improvements.
I herewith submit the estimated cost of the pipe sewer improvement in Indiana
✓ Avenue from Marine Street to Leer Street at $635.00
I herewith submit the estimated cost of the pavement improvement in the First
alley west of Vain Street from La Salle Avenue to Madison Street and the first alley north
of La Salle Avenue from Main Street to Lafayette Street at ................$22302.00
I herewith submit the estimated cost of the pipe sewer improvement in Blaine
Avenue and Terrace Avenue from Woodward Avenue to Vassar ¢venue at ........$j.,213.00
I herewith submit the estimated cost of the pipe sewer improvement in St.
peter Street from South Bend Avenue to Sorin Street and in Sorin Street from St. Louis
Street Boulevard to Eddy Street at $ 3,414.00
Petition for a street light filed with the Board for a light at corner .of
Meade Street and Division Street. The same was read and referred to the Street Com
missioner for investigation.
Petition filed with the Board for a sewer on Pulaski Street from Bivision
✓ Streetto Ford Street. The same was read and a resolution was ordered prepared..
Partial estimate allowed Stewart -Sheets Company on the Bowman Creek Trunk
sewer for the amount of .........................
By unanimous consent of the Board, a resolution was ordered prepared on
for a pavement on the 1st. alley north of Washington Avenue from Walnut Street to
Studebaker Street.
Property owners vesiding on South Franklin Street appeared before the Board
Jrelative to a petition filed with the Board under date of April 17th.,1914 for a pave—
ment on Fra�lin Street between W. Sample Street and Calvert Street. No. action taken.
The following report was filed by the City Civil Engineer.

LOCAL SEVER IMPROVEMENT RESOLUTION N0.328.
j Resolved by the Board of Public Works of the City of South Bend,County of St.
Joseph, State of Indiana, That the construction of a -local sewer intended and adapted
only for local use, by the property holders whose property abuts thereon and not in-
tended or adapted for receiving sewerage from collateral drains, be and the same is,
hereby ordered in and along Yukon Avenue from Portage Avenue to Riverside Drive viz: -
Beginning at the -dntersection of the center of Woodward Avenue and Yukon Ave. +
thence westerly along the center line°of Yukon Avenue to a point 100 feet easterly
from the easterly. line of Portage Avenue with a 10 inch vitrified pipe sewer.Also
beginning at the intersection of the center line of Woodward Avenue and Yukon Avenue,,
thence easterly along the center line of Yukon Avenue to a point 100 feet westerly
from 'the westerly -line of Portage Avenue with a 10 inch vitrified pipe sewer. Together',
with the necessary manholes, inlets, conduits and house connections along the line of
said improvement.

City it benefited by said improvement all according to -the method and manner provided
for in Act of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana,'entitled "An Act Uoncerning
Municipal Corporations," approved March 6,1905. Assessments, if deferred, are to be
paid in ten equal annual installments, with ihterest.at the rate of Six per cent per
annum. A bond or bonds shall be issued to the contractor in payment for such work,
unless the property owners pay said assessments before said bond or bonds are issued..
Under no circumstances shall the City of South Bend be or be held responsible for any
sum ,or sums due `from 'sa,i'd property 'owner or owners -for 'sai'd work, or for the collection
of same, or for the payment of any bond or bonds, certificate or certificates, issued to
said contractor in payment for such work, except for such moneys as shall have been
actually received by the City from the assessments for such improvement, or such moneys
as said City is by said above entitled Act required to pay. All proceedings had, and
wore done in the making of said improvement, assessment of property, collections of
assessments acid issuance of bonds therefor, shall be as provided for in said above
entitled Act.
Notice of this resolution shall be published on the July 2nd.,191-!. and
on July 9th.,1914 in the South Bend Daily News -Times, This Board will give a hearing
on this resolution at its office in the City Hall on the 29th., day of July,1914 at
7:45 P.M.

Resolved by the Board of Public Works of the City of South Bend,Indiana:
✓ That the following described property be appropriated for the use of said city; Beginning
at a point 14 feet north of the north east corner of lot 6 Raf'fIs First Addition; thence
north parallel with and 20 feet west of the east 1/9 line of Section 14 Tp. 37 N. R. 2 E.
to the south line of Sample Street; thence east 40 feet; thence south parallel with anD
20 feet east of said 1/8 section line to the south li e of right-of-way of the Terre
Haute & Logansport Railway Co; thence westerly on said right of way line to the east 1/9
line of said section 14 thence north to a point 20 feet east of beginning; thence west
20 feet to the place of beginning.
The following described property may be injuriously or beneficially affected
by such appropriation; Beginning at a point 144 feet north of the north east corner of lot
6 Raff's First Addition; thence north parallel with and 20 feet west of the east 1/E line of
Section 14 Tp. 37 N.R. 2 E. to the south line of Sample Street; thence east 40 feet; thence
south parallel with and 20 feet east of said 1/8 section line to the south line of the
right of way of the Terre Haute & Logansport Railway Co; thence westerly on said right-
