Bids for pipe sewers on tte following streets were opened, read and referred to the City Civil Engineer for tabulation. Pipe sewer on Tecumseh Avenue from Parkovash Avenue to Pokagon Street, under Improvement Resolution No. 312. /Pipe sewer on Vassar Avenue from Portage Avenue to Riverside Drive, under Improvement Resolution No. 311. J Pipe sever. on Dayton Street from Witwer Avenue to Miami Street, under Improvement Resolu- tion No. 313. Bids received for trunk sewer on Leer Street acid Calvert Street Streets from St. Joseph f River to Vernon Street, under improvement Resolution No. 3092 the same were read and re- ferred to City Civil Engineer for tabulation. In the matter of the improvement of Cedar Street from Emerick Street to Eddy Street under Improvement Resolution No. 295 1914 T.E.Howard et al on June 13th.91914 before 10:00 A.M. having filed their petition before said Board, wherein they claim that they are a majority of the resident freeholders whose property abuts upon said street to be improved., and petition that said street be improved with Asphaltic Concrete; therefore, said petition is referred to the City Civil Engineer for investigation, and report con- cerning the number of resident free holders on that part of said street which it is proposed to improve. BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS. Now comes the City Civil Engineer and reports as -follows: - In the matter of the petition of T.E.Howard and others for the improvement of Cedar Street from Emerick Street to Eddy Street, with Asphaltic Concrete, according to Improvement Resolution No. 29521914. I hereby report that the number of resident free- holders whose property abuts_ on said proposed work is 29, of which 18 have sighed said peti- tion. Very respectfully, _ WM. S. MOORE, City Civil Engineer. The report of the City Civil Engineer having been received from which it appears that there are 29 resident freeholders on the part of Cedar Street from Emerick Street to Eddy Street, to be improved under Improvement Resolution No. 295,1914 and that 19 resident freeholders have duly and legally executed and filed a petition before this Board requesting that said street be improved with Asphaltic concrete, which number con- stitutes a majority of the resident rreeholders whose property abuts on said street to be improved, and it appearing that bids have been received for said kind of pavement, it is hereby unanimously ordered by the Board that the preliminary order heretofore passed desi- gnating the kind of pavement with which said street is to be imp roved, be and is hereby modified., and Asphaltic Concrete is fixed as the kind of pavement with which said street is to be improved, and awards the contract for said improvement to Rankert & Eggleston, they being the lowest and best bidders. BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS. Bond of contractor for One Thousand ($1,000.00)Dollars signed by Eliaz G. Metz as principal and W. K. McHenry and Clifford Du Comb as sureties, was approved by the Board. Petition for a pipe sewer on Division Street from Olive Street to Chicago Avenue was filed with tie Board by property ov�ners on Division with a communication. The J� same wa.s read and a resolution was ordered, and a hearing set for. _ 280 Board met in.regular session at 7:45 P.M. Mr. John B. Weber absent. JHearing given on Improvement- Resolution No. 319 for pipe sewer on Talbot Avenue from South Bend Avenue to Howard Street. In the City of South Bend, Indiana. Upon said Bearing no remonstrance was filed and no remonstrators appeared. And the Board being fully advised in the premises, decides that the benefits to property liable to be assessed for said improvements are equal to the estimated cost of the same, as reported by the City Civil Engineer, and thereupon takes final action on said resolution as originally adopted, and the same is hereby in all things rati- fied, confirmed and approved. Resolved further, that notices be published on the 19th., day of June,1914 and on the 26th., day of June,1914 in a newspaper of general circulation in said City, stating that this Board will receive bids for the construction of said improve- ments up to 10:00 A.M. on the 7$;h., da- of July,1914 The Board reserves the right to reject any and all bids. Hearing given on Improvement Resolution No. 319 for resurfacing of pavemet on South Lafayette Street from Sample Street to a point 291-1/2 feet north of the I orth line of Tutt Street, in the City of South Bend, Indiana. Upon said hearing no remonstrators appeared and no remonstrances were filed. And the Board being fully advised in the premises, decides that the bene- fits to property liable to be assessed for said improvements are equal to the -esti- mated cost of the same, as reported by the City Civil Engineer, and thereupon takes final action on said resolution as originally adopted, and the same is hereby in all things ratified, confirmed and -approved. Hearing given on Vacation Resolution Nol 22 for the Vacation of an alley along Lots 10,11.4 and So.1/2 of lot 3 in Stover & Witwer's Addition,in the City of South Bend, Indiana. In the above matter remonstrators appeared, but no written remonstrances were filed. The Board after due consideration decided to deferred all action on the same until Tuesday June 23rd.,1914 at 7:45 P.M. Hearing given on Condemnation Resolution No. 30. for the opening and Extension of Calvert Street from Michigan Street to Main Street, In the City of South Bend, Indiana. In the above matter remonstrators appeared but no written remonstrance was filed, the Board after due consideration decided to deferr all action until Tuesday June 23rd.,1914 at 7:45 P.M. W64.@0 Contract for the pipe sewer on Tecumseh Avenue from Parkovash Avenue to Pokagon Street, under Improvement Resolution No. 312, was' awarded to Henry De Vos for the amount of.................................................$645.15 Contract for the pipe sewer on Dayton Street from Witwer Avenue to Miami Street lender improvement Resolution No. 313 awarded to Henry De Vos for the amount of.............................................................$6,061.20 Contract, for the Trunk sewer on Leer and Calvert Streets from St. Joseph River to Vernon Street, under Improvement Resolution No. 309, was awarded to Henry De Vos for the amount of.......................................$7,250.70 Bond and contract for the grade, curb and walk on Pennsylvania Avenue from High Street to Miami Street, under Improvement Resolution No. 310, signed by H. N. Bammes as principal and American Surety Company of New York as sureties was approved by the Board. 3S1 Bond and contract for Pipe sewer on Campau Street from Walsh Street to J Alley vast of Walsh Street, under Improvement Resolution Nos 305. signed by L. H. Webster as principal and The Londan & Lancashire Guarantee and Accident Co., as surety, was approved by the Board. Bond and contract for concrete pavement on alley west of Main Street from Marion Street to Navarre Street, under Improvement Resolution No. 305, signed by H. N. Barnes as principal and American Surety Company of New York as surety was approved by the Board. The Electric light that was ordered placed at the corner of Golden Avenue and Portage Avenue under date or May 26th. ,1914,N_.v,�, ordered change to the corner of Grant Street and Sample Street. The placing of a light at this corner was recommended by the Street Commissioner, as this was a very dark and dangerous place at night. An excavation bond for the sum. of One Thousand ($1,000.004Dol.lars signed by David R. Forgan,Edgar S. Bloom, Frank F. Fowle and John A. Moriarty,Receivers,Central JUnion Telephone Company as principal, and the American Surety Company of New York as surety was approved by the Board. The Street Commissioner reported on the following intersections as being in defective condition, and the Board ordered same repaired and put in. / At the corner of Huron Street a -rid Jackson Street. V At the corner of Kosciuszko and Huron Street. At the corner of Huron Street and Pulaski Street. Complaint was filed with the Board by John F. Greiner of a pole which sets at 616 South Fellows Street, right on top of sewer trap which has caused trouble to be repaired, and which he would like to have removed. The pole,and wire inspector reported as follows: This is a Central Union Telephone pole. This pole was placed there a few years ago. An agreement was made between the owner Mr John F. Greiner and the Central Union Telephone Company. As the pole or cable was removed to the satisfaction of both parties, this pole is placed in the proper place inside of the curb. A ground guy is placed in the lawn to support the pole. The same was read and placed on file. The street Commissioner reported on defective sidewalk at 723 and 910 North Allen Street, -and the same was approved by the Board. The street Commissioner made the following report on street light,,on W. Division Street at the corner of Anthony Street. Hon. Board of Public Works, V'rentle4en :— If your honorable Body wish to extend lights any farther out on Division Street, this corner is just 2 blocks beyond the last light and is the proper place for same. D.C.Layton, Street Commissioner. The Board ordered same placed on file to be taken up in two months (about August 18th.21914) A complaint was received by the Board in regard to the safety of the buildi lg at 502 East La Salle Avenue, occupied by Mr. Cohen and owned by Mr. Wm. Ber.gan. The Clerk was instructed to notify the Safety Board by letter of such complaint. Engineer filed assessment roll and final estimate for Concrete pavement on / Howard Street from Leeper Avenue to Niles Avenue, under Improvement Resolution No. 217.In the City of South Bend, Indiana. Resolved, that notices as to the amounts of assessments be published for six consecutive days in the South Bend Daily Tribune,commencing on the 22nd. day of June,1914 stating that this Board will give a hearing on the amount of such assessments at its office in the City Hall on the 7th., day of July,1914 at 7:45 P.M. Resolved further, that the entire work under the above contract be accepted a,nd approved and the final estimate thereon allowed. Notice of t11s resolution shall be published on the 22nd., day of June21914 in the South Bend Tribune, stating that this Board will give a hearing on the acceptance of such work at its office in the City Hall on the 7th., day of July,1914 at 7:45 P.M. 282 Engineer filed.assessment roll and final estimate for Concrete pavement on Alley West of Park,Avenue from Navarre Street to LaMonte Terrace, under Improverent Resolution No. 300. In the City 5du.th Bend,' Indiana. Resolved, that notices as to the amounts of assessments be published for six consecutive days in the South Bend Daily Tribune, commencing on the 22nd. day of June,1914 stating that this Board will give a hearing on the amount of such assessments at its office in the City Hall on the 7th., day of July,1914 at 7:45 Pius Resolved further, that the entire work under the above contract be accepted and approved and the final estimate thereon allowed.
