Board met in regular session at 10:00 A.M. All members present.
Bids were received, opened and read for pavement on Cedar Street from
Emerick Street to Eddy Street., under Improvement Resolution No. 295. 'The same was refered
to the City, Civil Engireer for tabulation.
Biers we're received for concrete floors for Hose houses Nos. 5 and,6. The
sane were opened and referred to the City Engineer for tabulation.
Report of the City Cemetery Sexton was read and placed on file.
The , City Civil Engineer filed the follovUiing report.

Board decided to rent Mr. Joseph Vrill T U land for the depositing of nigat
soil at t�r1e rate of $10.00 per month. The Board reserves the right to discontinue
the use of same with a thirty day notice.
Petition received from the property owners on Vistula Avenue between.- -
Ernsberger Street and Sample Street soliciting the Board to have a five foot sidewalk.
placed along Vistula A venue between the above mentioned points, and also to clean upn
rubbish on said Vistula Avenue. The Clty Attorney was instructed to write to the Chicago,
South Bend & Northern Indiana Ry. Company to complete such work by October 13th. ,1914.
according to their franchise with the City.
The City Attorney was instructed to notify the Chicago, Lake Shore &
J South Bend Ry. Company that a strict compliance with the Ordinance in regard to thgelayin.g
of the pavement between their tracks and the removal of their track on Colfax Avenue.
Petition received , read and referred to the City Engineer for a pipe
sewer -on Portage Avenue from Kinyon Street to River View Cemetery . The ..same was ordered
set for a hearing.
The following petition was received from the River Park Civic Association
in regard to a pole which stands almost in the center of the sidewalk on the soutii side of
Nall Street, where the alley intersects said street, between Sixth Street and Seventh
Street. People who use the street regard it as an obstruction and somewhat dangerous since
the cerient sidewalk has been constructed. The Pole and wire inspector z•eported this to be
a Home Tel. Company pole and should be removed to the corner of lalmn and set inside of the
curb, also have all poles marked..- The Board vpproved of same.
The Board ordered the Street Commissioner to purchase the years supply' of
Brooms from the Studebaker Corporation at $10.00 each.
The Board decided to purchase two wagons for the Street Department.
Specifications and blueprint for the —floors in the Hose houses No. 5 &nd
6 were presented to the Board and riled.

f Hearing given on. improvement Resolution No. 316 for grade, curb and walk
on Wilber Street fvom Michigan Avenue to Linden Street. In the City of South Bench,
Indiana.
In the above matter remonstrators appeared and written remonstrances were
filed. The Board after clue consideration decided to modify the above numbered resolu-
tion to read as Follows:- Grade, curb and walk on. Wilber. Street from Michigan Avenue
to Longley 'Avenue, and the Board find in each and every case in said improvement
that the benefits to the property and to the City of South Bend a -,e equal to the esti-
mated cost of said improvement, and the same are hereby in all things ratified, con-
firmed and approved.
Resolved further, that notices be published on the 5th.,) day of June,
1914 and on the 12th.day of June,1914 in the South Bend Daily Nees-TI-ries, stating
that this Board will receive bids for the construction of said improvement up to 10;00
A. m. on the 23rd. day of june,1914. The Board reserves the right to reject any or
all bids.

In the above matter no remonstrators appeared and no remonstrances were
filed. The Board therefore find in each and every case in said improvement that the
benefits to the property and to the City of South Bend are equal to the estimated cost
of said improvement, and the same are hereby in all things ratified, confirmed and
approved.
Resolved further, that notices be published on the 5th., day of June,
1914 and on the :12th.., day of June.1914 in the South Bend Daily News -Times, stating
that this Board will receive bids for the construction of said imrovement up to 10:00
A.M. on the 23rd. , day. of June,1914. The Board reserves the right to reject any or
all bids.
In the matter of the hearing on Pavement on Sherman Avenue from
Michigan Avenue to south end of said Street, Under improvement resolution No. 301
The Board decided to deferr all action on same until June 23rd. ,1914 at .7:45 P.M,
Hearing given on Condemnation Resolution No. 29 for the opening and
extension of Sherman Avenue from south end of Sherman Avenue to Oak Street, In the
City of South Bend, Indiana.
In the above matter remonstrators appeared, but no further written
remonstrances were filed. • All remonstrances were over -ruled. The Board therefore
declare the above property in all things condemned and appropriated for public use.
The City Civil Engineer was instructed to prepare roll showing awards
of damages and assessments of benefits in the above matter.
l By unanimous consent of the Board the Cedar Street P.�vement,under
V Improvement Resolution No. 295 to be lrid with Nelsonville Brick will be a,wa.r;ied to

.Petition filed for a, pipe sewer on Blaine Avenue from Vassar Ave.
to Portage Avenue. The same was read and the Board instructed the Clerk to have
a resolution prepared on sar2e and set for a hearing.
The Board instructed the Clerk to prepare a resolution for curb , and
sidewalk and grade for the same on Blaine Avenue from Vassar Ave. to Portage Ave,
and set the same for a. hearing.

In regard to the petition filed May 29th.,1914 for the ,opening, of-_,Ottowa
Court at the Lake Shore right of way to Indian&,Avenue, the Board intrusted the Clerk to
ha ve a. resolution prepared on the same and set for a hearing.
Petition filed with the Board from property holders orl West Division Street
from the C.I. & S. R. R. to Olive Street, soliciting the Board. to place a street cleaner
or (cart man) on said Street. The same was read and referred to the Street Commissioner.
Engineerreported on the petition for a, sewer on Sorin Street from South Bend
Avenue to Eddy Street, and recommended that said petition be granted. The Board instructed
ultie Clerk to prepare a.resolution on the same and set for a hearing.
In regard to the petition filed on May 29th.,, for a p�.pe sewer on Corby St.
From Niles Avenue to St. Louis St,,. the engineer reported that the petition should be referred
back for more signatures. The Clerk was instructed to seftdpetition, back for more signatures
to Mr. Orson L. Morgan.
Contract for the .concrete floors in Numbers 5 and 6 hose houses was awarded to
E. Burner and Company,, complete for $710-00
In regard to petition filed with the Board with blue print for for a siding
into sand and gravel pit at the Michigan Central Railway on Niles Ave., t-o--st-airst on the main
tracks about 100 ft. north of the corner of Niles Avenue and Crescent Avenue, the Board
-approved of the same and referred it to the City Attorney to bring up before the Common
Council for ratification.
