Report o� Sealer Burnes was approved and ordered placed on file. ELECTRICAL DEPARTI4'�NT Requisitions and bills were presented and ordered paid. On motion of I�qr. Dadaez an8 second by P:rr. I,ang the Board so ordered the installation o� Fire Box at °`destmoor an� Naney Streets. l��r. Qualls was instructed to install said Fire Box immediately. POLICE DEPARTf?ENT 8equisitions and bills were presented and ordered paid. Applieation of C. H. Slaybaugh �vas presented and ordered plaeed -on �ile. ' Application Yor poliee officer commissions: The �'ollowing named were appointed special police o�ficers to act in the narious eapacities, subjeet to cancellation at any time : David Fishgrund - Park Board Robert Pl�orehouse - Bendix Brake Company � Jos. Overlock - Studebaker Corporation On motion o� �:4r. Long and second by �:'r. Gadacz the Yellow Cab Company was granted Stand at New Jersey Railroad. A�ter presenting agreement, �.'.r. �'ugene '�ynegar was granted permission to transfer his Stand to that o� the Courtesy Cab Company. Report of Policewoman, �4rs Evans was read and ordered plaeed on file. Attorney Hogan appeared representing the Sedan Cab Company and was informed, by the Board , that another Attorney had appeared at a previous meeting and was informed as to the proper proceedure . bePore obtaining Stand �or said Company. Up to the present time Sedan Cab Company has not complied with provisions o� the Taxicab Ordinance. ��r. Ho�an stated he would take the matter up with Cab Company and see tY�at wish�s of the Board were carried out. �Rr. Budd in�ormed l��r. Ho�an that unless something was done immediately, the policemeM cvould be iristructed to enforce said Taxicab Ordinance, as to Cabs operating with out having Cab Stand. / �`�� . FEBRUARY 1.7 t 1930 C ie� Zenon presented the follo�uing let�er to the Board: " Board of Publie Safety, South Bend , Indiana. Gentlemen:— I desire to call your attention to a certain action on the part of one o� our officers, which, to my mind, is worthy o�' your noti ee. Deeer�ber 8, 1929 at �ive o' clock Pb� the 5erg� ts of�ice reQei�red a call that there were some suspieious looking characters in the alley at the rear of the Sears Roebuck & Company store. ` Officer DeLee who was on duty as 1!Rinute man, at this time, was dispatched to this seene for investigation. This officer,lone handed, made the arrest of two bandits who were equipped with guns, drills, bars, etc. , used for burglarizing. One of these bandits was sentenced to serve 25 years, the other one ten years, a third one escaped in an automobile but was later captured and is servin� from one to ten years. I recite this, to this Honorable Board, for the sole purpose of making an appeal that this act of braver�, eoura�e and �ortitude be reco�nized and properly rewarded. Shoul� you concur in this matter I ean assure you that I will appreciate it very much. I make no suggestions as to the amount of reward or the manner in whi ch i t shoulc� be paid. , S. J. Raymond was promoted from pa rolman to that of Supervising Cagtain in charge of traf�ie. 0 motion of �Rr. Long, seeonc� by �".r. Gadaez it was so ordered that Of icer James J. 3a.tt be promoted fram Patrolman to the rank of Serg� � n eharge oY Auto Detail.� 0 motion of �:Rr. Long, seeond by p'r. Gadaez it was so ordered that Pa rolman John St�ckley, assigned to Health Department, be transfe red to the Police Department,at recommendation of Chief Lenon, and pro oted to the rank of Serg' t. 0 motion of �:2r. �adacz, second by ?�r. Lon�, motorcycle OffiQer �'verett was promoted �rom patrolman to the rank of Serg' t in charge o� moto cyele squad, after being recommended by Chie� Lenon. U on recommendation of Chief Lenon, a motion b,y ��r. Lond, second by A�Rr. Gadacz, O�ficer B. J. Roe was ordered to take the place made vaoant y 'the transfer of' O�ficer Stickley.
