Engaging Youth, Engaging Neighborhoods Photo Exhibit Reception
On Monday, July 16, 2018, the South Bend Common Council and City Clerk Kareemah Fowler
met with students, their families, and staff from Engaging Youth, Engaging Neighborhoods
(EYEN) Program for a reception to showcase their displayed photo work located in the South Bend
Common Council Suite. The Common Council and City Clerk Kareemah Fowler, have proudly
welcomed the students' photography in their offices that tells their community story through
photographs. Yesterday, students had an opportunity to share their experiences and demonstrated
how their photography tells a story about their communities. City leaders shared with students that
their photography has brightened up their space and tells a South Bend inclusive community story.
Displaying the photography is a great way to showcase the students and continue to promote the
arts within our community. The EYEN is a collaborative program between Neighborhood
Resource Connection and University of Notre Dame professors and researchers, Maria McKenna
and Stuart Green. The program which began in 2011 develops youth empowerment by
demonstrating how they can become effective change agents in their local community and
neighborhoods.
