Meeting was called to order at 4:00 P.M. by Pres. Engeldrum. F Mr. Nicely was not present. Minutes of the last regular meeting, also special meeting of Dec. 29th, 1927 were read and approved. - FIRE DEPT. u e Fire Dept. bills were approved and ordered paid. ,. otion prevailed that annual report of Chief R.A.Knoblock for 1927 be � apeepted and ordered placed on file. ELECTRICAL DEPT. r} Electrical Dept. bills were approved and ordered paid. Motion prevailed that the weekly report of Supt. Qualls for the week ending 12/31/27 be accepted and placed on file, also monthly report for month of December 1927, j Motion prevailed the yearly report of Supt. Qualls for the year 1927-'. be accepted and ordered placed on file. i DEPT. of WEIGHTS & MEASURES Motion prevailed that the weekly report of City Sealer Burns, for week ending 12/31/27, also monthly report for December 1927 be accepted and ordered placed on file. Motion prevailed that the yearly report of City Sealer Burns for the year of 1927 be accepted and ordered placed on file. POLICE DEPT. Police Dept. bills were approved and ordered paid. Motion prevailed that the annual report of Chief of Police J.J.Hatt for the year 1927 be accepted and ordered placed on file. Motion prevailed that the resignation of Capt. Lawrence J.Lan.e be accepted as of December 22nd, 1927. Motion prevailed that the following letter be sent to Capt. Lane. January 3rd, 1928. Lawrence J.,Lane, 1110 Stanfield St. South Vend, Indiana. Dear Sir: It is with very deep regret that we are forced to accept your resignation from the South Bend Police Department. You are to be commended for your many years of efficient and faithful service as a Police Officer of the City of South Bend, and your record is one of.which you may be justly proud. We';.7aszsprb�.you:,that you have our best wishes in your new venture and we sincerely hope that the future may hold for you the measure of success and accomplishments that you have enjoyed in the past. Captain, effective as of January 1st, 1928. Motion prevailed that Chief of Police J.J.Hatt be ordered to instruct .all Officers to keep a careful watch for children tieing or fastening sleds to automobiles, (more commonly known as "hooking rides ",) and to severely reprimand them or take whatever other methods necessary to discourage this dangerous practice. Motion prevailed that barricades be errected on East LaSalle Avenue and maintained from the time of closing of school in the afternoon• until 11:00 P.M. in the evening at the intersections of Notre .Dame Avenue and St.Peter Street that children may coast down the East LaSalle, Avenue H1 1 ` free from the dangers of cross traffic on the two above intersecting Streets. i pre ailed to adjourn at Attest: Clerk Preside t a
