All members were present. Minutes of previous meeting were read and approved. Requisitions numbers 08872 to 08878, inclusive, were approved, also claims in the amount of 01400.01 from the following suppliers. Payr for the first half .of February for the various departments, amounting to $16,940.39, were approved. Meyer & Son, Inc. .82 FIRE DEPARTMENT Chief Freeh present: Matters pertaining to the Fire Department were discus,aed.'with the Chief in general. It was regularly moved by Mr. Anderson, seconded by Mr. Woodward and carried that Russell J. Hoffman be put on the Fire Department as of February 16th, subject to assignment of ' �the Chief of the Fire Department and to -examination by Poli.e.e,Dootor and also subject to his being accep . ted by the Pension Board of the Fire Department. His salary to be the same as allowed probation firemen for the first six months. Application for position on the Fire Department was received from Henry Gustave Backgren and ordered placed on file. ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT - Mr Qualls present: Matters pertaining to the Electrical Department were discussed in general. The matter of Frank Roytek was brought up in reference to an obligation to Miss Nelson for rent. The Board instructed Mr. Qualls to have Roytek see the Clerk and arrange for disposition of the account and arrangements have been made for liquidating the account on a satisfactory basis. POLICE DEPARTMENT - Chief Lane present: The Chief of Police reported tentatively in regard to the trip made by Assistant Chief Diedrich and Officer Berner on the Studebaker Safety Trip and stated that a detailed report would be in the hands of the Board at its next meeting. The Board along the same lines as that now used policy at the present time followed. instructed to decide on the ticket In regard to the placing of telephones in the Police Department and the arrangement for operation after five o'clock in the evening was referred to the Chief and to the Telephone-Company. The Chief of Police submitted report of the Radio Department for the month of January which was ordered placed on file. The South Bend Automotive Trade Association, in a letter addressed to the Board signed by Earl E. Reeder, outlined that the various members of the As:sociatiori were in accord with the arrangement of the Board for the month of February with the understanding that the Gill - Vorn Company, who will do the towing, will distribute the car to the dealers who handle.that particular make of automobile. The Board decided to;take no further action until March 1st. The matter of ,present arrangement of William Ortman was brought up and the Board instructed the Secretary to have Ortman appear before the Board next Monday. This was brought out by a letter from William A. Bertsch, attorney for Mrs. Ortman, requesting a signed statement as to payments ordered by the Court'. The question of Police Physician'.s duties in connection with the elaim.presented by Dr.'Pauszek for extra services at the time of the Green fire on December 26th was discussed and Dr. Pauszek presented a monthly report for January showing services rendered free to Police Officers - twenty -one cases on which the charges would have been $140.00. The Physician's reports are.on file in the Board of Public Safety. Application for position on the Police Department of Elmer Sokol was received and ordered placed on file. Application for special police officer at the Bendix Products Corporation in favor of Earl.Scherer was approved by the Board subject to being sworn in by the Chief of Police and also to the posting of a' $1,000.00 bond by the Bendix Corporation or a letter from them that the Officer is now under bond in their favor.
