Regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held Monday,
January 6, 1 9:00 A. M. All members were present.
.,- , Minutes of previous meeting were read and approved.
Requisitions numbers 08791 to 08813 were approved. Claims, from
the following suppliers in the amount of $676.35 were approved by the
Board and ordered paid, also-payrolls of the various departments for
the first half of January amounting to $16,951.39.

ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT - Mr. Qualls present:
Mr. Qualls made a report of the fire alarms handled during the
month of December, also comparative statement covering the last ten
years. This report is on file in the office of the Board of Public
Safety.
Mr.• also made a report of the fire alarm fluctuation
month by'm-onthAfor the full year of 1935, showing still alarms 644,
box alarms 380, total 1,024 alarms for the year. This sketch is on
file in the office of the Board of Public Safety.
FIRE DEPARTMENT - Chief Freeh present:
The Chief submitted to the Board the fiftieth annual report of
the Fire Department since the installation of paid department. This
report is on file in the office of the Board of Public Safety.
The Chief also made the following recommendations for improve-
ments in the department for future consideration:
(1) That a new Fire Station be built in the vicinity of Miami
Street and Ewing Avenue.
(2) That an addition be built to No. 10 Fire Station and to
install service truck for.the south section of the City.'
(3) The purchase and installation of 8 new fire alarm boxes -
5 for the business district and 3 for the outlying section
of the City.
(4) A I hose tower be built for the drying of fire hose for No. 9
Fire Station.
(5) That an addition be built to No. 3 Fire Station whi,ch would
facilitate operations and enable No. 3 truck from Central
Station to be removed to No. 3 Fire Station to answer alarms,
in River Park and the northern part of the City.
(6)' That a new Fire Station be constructed.for No. 2 Engine
Company which is now located on property belonging to the
Studebaker Corporation and that this new Station should be
located in the vicinity of Prairie Avenue and Sample Street. I

Public Safety.
The Chief also submitted a report for the year 1935 showing the
number of runs made by each Hose Company an aggregate of 3,412, the.-
number of miles travelled a total of 6,8 number of feet of hose
used in each case, number of gallons of chemical used and number of
feet of ladders used. This report is on file in the office of the
Board of Public Safety.
The Chief further submitted a report for the year 1935 giving a
list of the persons who were burned or injured and received aid from
the department. This report is on file in the office of the Board of

POLICE DEPARTMENT - Chief Lane present:
Matters pertaining to the Police Department were discussed with
the Chief, but there being no matters of importance with reference to
the operation of the department no action was taken.
The question of target practice for the development of the members
of the department was discussed with the ,Chief and the Board authorized
the purchase of six 22 caliber target pistols. This practice has been
done heretofor with regular 38 special revolvers and this new procedure
will create a considerable saving in the expense of this work.
Application for position on the Police Department of Leonard Noehs
was presented to the Board and ordered.placed on file.
The matter of supplying typewriter for use in the Auto Detail was
mentioned and the Chief advised that he possibly could secure a second-
hand typewriter from the Studebaker Corporation at, a reasonable price.
He was requested to investigate and report his findings.
