HomeMy WebLinkAbout09/20/1935 Special Mtg Board of Public Safety Minutes2'r)- SPECIAL MEETING September 20, 1935 Special meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on', Friday, September 20, 1935 at 2:30 P. M. All members were present including Chief of Police Lane and I6Ir. Coverdale, a representative of the Cab drivers. In view of the fact that the Controller was notified by telegram by the Franklin'Insurance Company that insurance of private operators under their policy was cancelled, due to strike situation, the Board, after considerable discussion decided that it would prohibit the operation of taxicabs on the streets of South Bend until all operators gave written assurance by the Insurance Companies that they are protected on all points of insurance policies, including civil commotion or riot. The Chief of Police was directed to orally notify all operators and the Secretary was instructed to direct the following communication to them: f "At a special meeting of the Board of Public Safety of the City of South Bend held on September 20th in the Board office, it was the decision of the Board that no taxicabs be permitted to operate upon 'the streets of South Bend until further notice. You will, therefore, discontinue your operations. The Board, by this action on said date, hereby rescinds previous permits issued to the respective Taxicab Companies. Please be governed accordingly." The meeting adjourned at 3:30 P. M. Chairman ATTEST: Clerk
